*GOA CHITRA PRESENTS GUITAR PRASANNA — MASTERCLASS & LIVE CONCERT*
Goa Chitra Museum, Benaulim proudly announces a landmark cultural experience featuring internationally acclaimed guitarist, composer, educator and cultural icon *GUITAR PRASSANNA* — a rare opportunity for Goans to not only witness his extraordinary music LIVE in concert, but also learn from him in an in-depth masterclass.
These are two separate events on two different days *16th and 17th January 2026.*
*ABOUT GUITAR PRASANNA:* Prasanna, fondly known worldwide as *Guitar Prasanna* , is one of the most celebrated and innovative musicians to emerge from the Indian Subcontinent. A visionary artist, he pioneered the performance of traditional Carnatic Classical music on the modern electric guitar and has since earned global acclaim for seamlessly traversing *Carnatic, Jazz, Rock, Film and World Music* traditions.
He trained in the traditional *Guru-Shishya parampara* , studying under Vocalist *Tiruvarur S. Balasubramaniam* and Violin Maestro *A. Kanyakumari* . He was honoured with a *Lifetime Achievement Award for Carnatic Music* by H.H. Jayendra Saraswathi in 2003, and in 2021 received the prestigious *Distinguished Alumnus Award* from *IIT Madras* .
Prasanna is also among the very few Indian composers — alongside Pandit Ravi Shankar and A.R. Rahman — to have scored music for an *Oscar Award-winning film* , Megan Mylan’s “Smile Pinki” (2009). He has composed for award-winning feature films including the National and Filmfare Award-winning Tamil film “Vazhakku Enn 18/9.”
His work has earned rave reviews from global media including The *New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, Huffington Post, Sydney Morning Herald, Jazz Times, DownBeat, Guitar Player Magazine* , among many others. His composition ‘Falsehood’ is featured in the book Essentials of Jazz – The First 100 Years, alongside legends of world jazz.
A *Magna Cum Laude graduate of Berklee College of Music* , Prasanna has performed and recorded with Grammy-winning musical greats such as *Esperanza Spalding, Victor Wooten, Joe Lovano* , and more, while also collaborating with Indian stalwarts like *Ilaiyaraaja, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Dr. L. Subramaniam* and others. His long-standing association with *A.R. Rahman* has made him a beloved figure among Indian music fans.
He is also the *Founder of Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music* , one of South Asia’s leading music institutions, through which he has inspired and mentored thousands of musicians globally. A.R. Rahman describes him as: “ _A living hope for quality music._ ”
