🇬🇧 A special day with a special w**e. Of course only with the King of w**es and w**e of Kings. A pleasant young Barolo from the great 2021 vintage. Very smooth, well balanced acidity , soft tannins, typical La Morra flavour cherries, red fruits, violets and rose petals, candies. Medium long finish.
Very enjoyable now and will keep for some decades.

🇬🇧A big thank you to Pereira d’Oliveira for bringing this rare Tinta Negra to the market. In the past Tinta Negra were often considered a lower quality grape for Frasqueira (aged 20+ years in cask) w**es. Only in recent years the IVBAM allowed to put Tinta Negra on the label. Traditionally the white grapes were/are considered the noble ones, except the Bastardo (Trousseau) which is a rare red grape variety in Madeira.
Without any doubt this Tinta Negra 1929 sweet is a top class Madeira w**e with exceptional quality and aroma profile.

So here the tasting notes of this w**e.

Medium to dark brown-amber colour and greenish shine on the edge. Clear and bright.

On the nose some slightly volatile aromas. Raisins, dates and mature red and blackberries. In the background light paint solvent as quaternary nuances of an nearly 100 years old Tinta Negra. Dried flowers. Overall very intense and balanced.

In the mouth very good balance between acidity and sweetness. Less sweet than expected. Medium to full body. Some freshness from the nice acidity. Still full of life.
Notes of sugarcane molasses, blackberry jam, raisins and dates. In the aftertaste slightly spicy, toasted nuts.
Surprisingly long finish and rich finish.

Pretty sure that some more decades in the bottle will elevate this w**e to the next level.

An outstanding Madeira and a super special Tinta Negra.

There is no doubt that every grape variety should be considered noble in Madeira! !

🇬🇧 Dark red ruby with purple shine, on the nose red and blue fruits, black cherry, blackberry, plum, blackcurrant, black tea, black pepper. On the palate a good structure, well balanced acidity and some vibrant tannins, good freshness. Notes of red and blue fruits, some spices, violets. Alcohol and wood perfectly integrated. Nice long and somehow elegant finish.
Of course a young w**e, but very enjoyable in this stage.
Will improve the balance with some years of aging and will age well for some decades. It also is very versatile as it pairs nicely with lots of foods as pasta, pizza of course but also with a steak or cheese. Very good value. BRAVO 👏

A great example of an elegant Barolo. Even in this young stage it shows a very balanced and elegant Barolo. Nice vivid red ruby colour. In the beginning a bit shy. After a while it opened up nicely. On the nose lots of violet, red and black fruit. Very fresh, tannins very well integrated, balanced acidity. Medium long finish. Excellent !

Very enjoyable now but will for sure improve with the next decades.

Amarone della Valpolicella Bertani 1961

The bottle was in perfect conditions. Also, the cork as you can see in the photo were also in perfect conditions.

Left the bottle upside for 3 days before opening. We opened the bottle two hours before we served the w**e. We used the Durant to pull the cork safely.

On the first look, the colour was incredible. Luminous and clear. Deep red ruby-blood colour. Very dark and dense.
Seemed to be much younger with no sights of oxidation.

On the nose, “ … oh my God …. WOW…..incredible”.
These the first comment I gave.
Very expressive and powerful aromas … of figs, dark cherry, raisins, mature plums. In the background chocolate, black tea, light leather and some kind of spices.

In the mouth, very intense and very structured. Balanced acidity and tannins still playing its role in the background.
Feeling of a kind of sweetness where you can taste the appassimento… raisins, dark cherries, black tea, chocolate. Considering the age still very fresh, what surprised me.
Long and dry finish, beautiful.

The next day the w**e was still in good shape. I finished the w**e two days later with the opened bottle simply placed in the cellar. Indestructible !

This w**e was still full of life and I am pretty sure this will keep for another decade or two at least….

A great example of a perfectly aged top quality Amarone.
Bertani is always a safe bet when it comes to aged vintage Amarone. A privilege to taste these gems.

🇮🇹 Guidalberto the second w**e of the Tenuta San Guido is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A different and independent w**e profile compared to the Sassicaia. Introduced in the market since 2000 this w**e shows generally a very good aging potential.

Dark ruby to purple colour, clear and luminous.

On the nose nice fresh fruits, red and black berries, cherry in the background mint, vanilla. Very elegant and fine.

In the mouth very balanced, with good tannins which need some aging to soften. Acidity well balanced. Same notes as in the nose, plum in the background slightly secondary notes as vanilla, fresh leather. Good freshness. Medium long finish.
Good aging potential.

🇬🇧 The Queen of w**es ! One of the most prestigious vineyards in the Barbaresco area is Rabajà.
This Riserva from the great vintage 2019 was produced for the first time by the Vietti w**ery, even if they have done that also back in the ‘80.
It is always a great pleasure to taste these gorgeous w**es.

Red dark ruby colour. Luminous and clear.

On the nose very powerful and elegant at the same time.
Aromas red fruits, cherries and floral notes of violet and rosehip.

In the mouth very smooth, with soft mature tannins, in the background a good portion of acidity which contributes to a solid structure. Fresh and very elegant. All in the right place. Extremely enjoyable in this stage. Medium long finish.

This with some years of aging will improve the complexity and gain even more elegance somehow.

🇬🇧 A Classic Bordeaux from Pauillac produced by Chateau d’Armailhac. 2018 was a good vintage in Bordeaux. Lots of red and black fruits, cassis, some floral notes. Medium bodied. Good balance between acidity and tannins. Still powerful, need probably someone year of aging to improve. Medium long finish.
But even in this stage very pleasant….

🇬🇧 I really enjoyed this 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape from Domaine de Beaucastel. The 2016 vintage is one of my favourite. A lot of fresh fruits such as red and black fruits. Great balance between acidity and tannins. Even in this stage it is very pleasant. Of course it still needs some more years of aging to reach its peak. Would recommend to put aside some bottles of this amazing w**e.
