I’m studying Italian wine and these 3 things have stood out:

🍷The insane diversity of native grapes (you could study for years and still not cover them all)
🍷What “grows together goes together” really makes sense when you pair local food and wine together
🍷Almost every region produces sparkling wine - often via the traditional (champagne) method

It’s been a brilliant journey so far and I feel like I have only just scratched the surface.

Have you tried many Italian wines beyond the classics?

💫 I met the legendary Silvano Bormida, a Barolo producer from Monforte d’Alba,

🍷Silvano’s passion for healthy, living soils and producing wine with minimal intervention is a playbook for sustainability in the vineyard

🪺🐝🦉For him, a vineyard isn’t just about growing grapes but a whole ecosystem working in harmony

🍇What I loved most is his pragmatic approach: farm with nature, but always with the aim to showcase the terroir and make exceptional wines

🍇Together with his family, Silvano is focused on leaving the land better for the next generation, building resilience through diverse cover crops, living mulches and planting native trees around the vineyards

👉🏻And while I highly recommend a trip to the Langhe, you don’t even have to come to Italy to try wines - they are available in the UK from and many importers around the world

2016 throwback! Loved digging out these photos and marvelling how our life has evolved.

I was juggling a career as a city analyst, mum of two little boys, writing a food and wine blog and never missing an opportunity to socialise or entertain, after finishing renovating our house in south west London.

🥂🍾We made lots of new friends with school parents. I started doing wine tastings and set up a wine club where we’d pick a region, someone would host and cook something authentic and we’d explore the wines together

👩🏼‍🎓I did WSET 3 in a week (I do not recommend this approach but it was the only way I could fit it in) and promptly signed up for the the day I got my results

🌳Falling in love with the beaches and woodlands in Provence

🥑Feeling the challenges of work and burying myself in my blog, creating vegetarian and plant-based recipes

🧁And lots of baking

🍷Discovering the amazing wines of Hermitage

🚙And exploring north Rhone

🚴‍♂️Husband got the cycling bug and set up a club with like-minded school parents. He went on to organise a fantastic fundraiser - cycling from London to Amsterdam in 24 hours

🌅Holiday in Tuscany with friends

🍰School events were a perfect excuse for more baking!

🥗And lots more recipe creations

🌜Early morning walks in Richmond Park to get my head together before work
