Chianti Classico originates in the heart of Tuscany, in a growing zone reaching Florence to the north and Siena to the south and encompassing nine municipal areas: all of Castellina, Gaiole, Greve and Radda in Chianti, and part of Barberino Val d’Elsa, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Poggibonsi, San Casciano and Tavarnelle Val di Pesa. This is the birthplace of one the best-known and most widely appreciated w**es in the world, guaranteed by the Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) certification which is the peak of the quality scale for Italian w**es. Chianti Classico, with its distinctive and unmistakeable trademark, the Black Rooster, is governed by production specifications which include a minimum of 80% Sangiovese grapes in the blend for this, the only “oldest zone of origin”, defined in its boundaries in 1716 by an edict issued Cosimo III, Grand Duke of Tuscany. Today, the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico consists of over 600 member producers, of which around 350 sell their w**e under their own label but are united by a shared symbol: only bottles displaying the traditional Black Rooster trademark contain true Chianti Classico w**e.

From Stockholm to Copenhagen, Chianti Classico’s journey through Northern Europe continues, with a stop at the Copenhagen Opera House. 🇩🇰

24 producers came together to share the diversity of Chianti Classico, showcasing their latest vintages and Gran Selezione 2016, alongside Chianti Classico Olio DOP.

The day kicked off with the masterclass “Chianti Classico ‘Annata’: A Vivid Ambassador”, led by Thomas Ilkjær, Chianti Classico Honorary Ambassador.

The event welcomed Carlotta Gori, Director of the Chianti Classico W**e Consortium and Dr. Rodolfo Colaci, First Secretary at the Embassy of Italy in Copenhagen, bringing together the worlds of w**e and Italian diplomacy.

Another exciting stop on the Gallo Nero’s international journey, bringing the character, heritage and diversity of Chianti Classico to w**e lovers around the world.

Chianti Classico meets Stockholm! 🍷🇸🇪

On a sunny day in Stockholm, the Moderna Museet Restaurant provided the setting for a gathering of 26 Chianti Classico producers and Swedish w**e professionals.

Through their w**es, the producers showcased the diversity of the appellation and its deep-rooted connection to its land of origin. Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, Chianti Classico DOP Olive Oil and Vin Santo del Chianti Classico also took the spotlight.

The day started with the masterclass “Chianti Classico: Exploring Freshness, Balance and Terroir”, led by Åsa Johansson, who guided participants through the freshness, balance and distinctive sense of place that define these w**es.

A day filled with tastings, conversations and shared discoveries, with the participation of Carlotta Gori, Director of the Chianti Classico W**e Consortium and a visit from H.E. Michele Pala, Ambassador of Italy to Sweden.

An opportunity to celebrate the identity of Chianti Classico and strengthen its ties with the Swedish w**e community.

Today at Milan W**e Week, the Gallo Nero proudly spread its wings.

Curated by Roberto Riccardo Tornabene, Head Sommelier at Gong in Milan, the seminar “50 Years of Chianti Classico” was led by Tornabene and Giovanni Manetti, President of the Chianti Classico W**e Consortium.

Together, they retraced the history of the appellation through a tasting of 23 Chianti Classico w**es, ranging from 1971 to 2022.
