This Côtes du Rhône took me right back to my very first wine trip to the Southern Rhône, a trip that quite literally changed the direction of my life. Funny how a wine can do that, right?

Jean-Luc Colombo’s Côtes du Rhône was brimming with juicy red berry flavors, hints of garrigue, and a kiss of pepper. All backed by moutherwaterinf acidity and lovely inviting tannins.

Wine is so much more than just another bottled form of alcohol. It’s travel, history, place, art, science, people and their stories. That’s why I love it anyways.

Some of life lately. Oh! Headed to Napa/Sonoma for a long Mother’s Day weekend…who is around and wants to have a glass of wine?

If you haven’t tried Perricone yet, then my latest Substack is for you!

For the first installment of my new monthly series on obscure Italian grapes, I dove deep into this native Sicilian variety that’s quietly making a comeback. Think blackberry, sour cherry, balsamico, and tannins that demand your attention.

I visited four incredible producers making Perricone in different expressions (ancestral method sparkling, rosé, and red) and every single one surprised me.

Swipe to see two of my favorites and head to the link in bio if you want to learn more about Perricone & some must try producers. 💫🍇🍷

Getting back in the mix for WORLD MALBC DAY 🌏🍷💫 with two delightful Argentine expressions that are my usual go-to’s when I’m craving a glass of this 🍇🍇

2024 Malbec made from high mountain vines. In the glass it’s generous and layered with rich aromas of ripe red and dark fruits that give way to warm hints of vanilla, leather, and mocha, with a floral lift that keeps things elegant rather than heavy.

A fresher, relatively lighter take on the grape made from 100% certified organic Malbec sourced across three distinct vineyard sites in Mendoza. Expect bright violet aromatics and sweet plum fruit. It’s fresh, approachable, and easy to love! I always pick this one up on a Trader Joe’s run now that I’m back in California.

Who are some of your favorite Malbec producers?

Meet —Abruzzo pioneers who’ve been doing organic since before it was cool. ♻️🍷
Sebastiano Jasci went from delivering milk door-to-door in Vasto to creating compelling Abruzzo wines. His dream? To offer his father’s exceptional wine the same way he delivered milk every morning.

Fast forward to 1978: J&M became one of Italy’s first certified organic wineries (yes, 1978!). Today, they’re crushing it with a 100% solar-powered cellar 500 meters underground, producing around 300K bottles annually.

We had a memorable tasting on our trip with !!
Their Pecorino? Explosively fresh with coastal salinity that makes your mouth water. The Cerasuolo? Crunchy tart cherry with that signature bitter finish. And don’t sleep on their Riesling—surprisingly exceptional for this part of Italy.
Want the full story on J&M plus other Abruzzo wineries worth discovering? I’ve got a deep dive waiting for you at the link in bio.

Another Abruzzo knockout, Pecorino was nearly extinct by the 20th century until producers revived it in the ‘90s. And thank God they did, because this grape makes absolutely stunning wines.

Its name? Most likely tied to transumanza 🐑the centuries-old migration of sheep across Abruzzo. When the flocks passed through the vineyards each September, they’d nibble on these early-ripening, sweet grapes. To make peace with the vineyard owners, shepherds would offer… pecorino cheese.

Today, Pecorino thrives in high-altitude vineyards, producing bright, mineral-driven wines with beautiful texture and tension — the kind that make you pause mid-sip.

🍋 Think citrus, white peach, salinity, and mountain freshness in a glass.
💚 Try:
🥂 Torre Zambra “Poggio Salaia”
🌿 Abbazia di Propezzano “PEC”
🌸 Terre dei Beati “Giocheremo”
🍊 Jasci e Marchesani “Nerubé”
⚡️ Cataldi Madonna “Giulia”
