🍚🐟 𝐊𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧 – 𝐀 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐉𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐧’𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞

Kaisendon is a classic Japanese dish that brings together two of Japan’s greatest treasures: fresh seafood and high-quality rice. Served as a bowl of warm rice topped with an assortment of sashimi—such as tuna, salmon, scallops, shrimp, and sea urchin—Kaisendon highlights the natural flavors of the sea in their purest form.

What makes Kaisendon truly special is the role of the rice. Japanese rice, with its gentle sweetness and soft, slightly sticky texture, perfectly balances the freshness and umami of raw seafood. It absorbs soy sauce and seasonings just enough, creating harmony between every ingredient without overpowering the delicate taste of the fish.

Seafood is especially well-suited to Japanese rice because of its clean, delicate flavors. Fresh fish and shellfish bring natural umami and sweetness that are enhanced—not masked—by the gentle taste of the rice. The contrast between cool, fresh seafood and warm, fluffy rice creates a satisfying balance of texture and temperature, making each bite feel complete and harmonious.

Simple, fresh, and deeply satisfying—Kaisendon is more than a meal; it’s a celebration of rice and seafood in perfect balance. 🍣✨

🎋✨ 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐚 (七夕) – 𝐉𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐧’𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥! ✨🎋

Every year on July 7th, people across Japan celebrate Tanabata, a romantic festival rooted in a centuries-old legend. 🌌💫

The story tells of Orihime (the weaving princess) and Hikoboshi (the cowherd), lovers separated by the Milky Way and allowed to meet only once a year—on this special night. It’s a celebration of hope, love, and dreams that cross even the stars. 🌠

During Tanabata, you’ll see bamboo branches decorated with colorful paper strips called tanzaku, each carrying a handwritten wish. Streets and shopping arcades are filled with vibrant decorations, and some regions even hold parades and fireworks to mark the occasion. 🎆

🌿 What makes Tanabata special:
💌 Write your wish on a tanzaku
🎐 Decorate bamboo with ornaments
🎇 Enjoy local festivals and evening illuminations

Whether you're wishing for health, success, or love, tonight is the perfect time to look up at the stars and dream big. What would you write on your tanzaku? 🌟💭

🌾 Field to Office

At Ricefriend, delivering quality goes beyond working at a desk. That’s why our team actively participates in various fields of training to experience rice production firsthand.

This time, we visited Nagano Prefecture, known for its pure stream water and high-altitude climate—the perfect conditions for growing exceptional rice. 🌿🍚

Our staff participated in organic rice planting, gaining a deeper appreciation of the hard work and care that farmers put into every grain. By connecting directly with the roots of production, we strengthen our mission to deliver authentic value to our customers.

From muddy fields to polished packaging—we understand the journey. And that makes all the difference. 💪🌱

🍚Why don’t we have a Best-Before Date for rice in Japan?

Unlike many countries where rice is labeled with an expiration date, Japanese rice is treated more like a fresh food, similar to vegetables or fruits. That’s because in Japan, rice is deeply valued for its aroma, sweetness, stickiness, and texture, which begin to decline shortly after polishing.
🔸 Instead of a best-before date, Japanese rice displays the milling date, indicating freshness.
🔸 It's best enjoyed within 1–2 months after milling for peak flavor.
🔸 With proper storage in the fridge, it can still be used up to 6 months, though quality slowly declines.
🔸 Rice is stored in brown rice form in low-temperature warehouses and only milled just before shipping. This preserves its aroma, flavor, and texture, unlike in many countries where rice is milled and stored for long periods.
🔸 Exported rice may carry a best-before date depending on local regulations, usually up to 12 months, but true connoisseurs will notice a difference over time.
To enjoy your rice at its best, treat it like you would fresh produce! 🌾🍴

🍚✨ How to Store Rice Properly – Keep It Fresh & Safe!
To enjoy premium rice at its best, proper storage is key. Here are simple tips to help maintain freshness and prevent spoilage:
🔹 Use an airtight container
A sealed, transparent container lets you check the rice without opening it—and keeps air and moisture out.
🔹 Store in a cool, dark place
Avoid heat sources like those near the fridge or microwave. Choose a well-ventilated, dry space.
As a Japanese rice wholesaler, we advise storing rice in the refrigerator’s cool compartment to keep rice for a longer period of time.
🔹 Keep away from strong odors
Rice easily absorbs smells—never store it near detergent, kerosene, or raw food.
🔹 Prevent insects & mold
Clean containers regularly. Always wash and dry completely before refilling with new rice to avoid moisture and bugs.
A little care goes a long way in preserving flavor, texture, and safety. 🌾

[Fresh Japanese Rice - Nitrogen Flushing]

Did you know that exposure to oxygen can cause rice to lose its aroma, flavor, color, and quality over time due to oxidation? To protect the delicate aroma and flavor of premium Japanese rice, there is a package method called nitrogen flushing, which replaces oxygen with nitrogen, a safe, natural gas that helps prevent oxidation and insect growth, all without preservatives. One of our product lines applies this specialized packaging method so that we can deliver fresh Japanese rice to overseas consumers.

Below are the advantages of nitrogen flushing packaging:
✅ Maintains freshness longer
✅ Preserves aroma and taste
✅ Prevents bugs or insects
From harvest to table, we take every step to deliver the best quality. Enjoy premium Japanese rice as fresh as the day it was milled. 🌾🍚
