OH. MY. GOODNESS. Y’all, you can see SEE where these freaking hornets have been CHEWING away at the hive entrance. Just FYI, they CAN chew through wood. Their mandibles are so incredibly powerful.

I will admit I am completely fascinated with these giant Asian hornets now—and also thankful it’s the only major one we are currently dealing with (yes, there are other hornets to worry about 🫣) Just another opportunity to learn and work with nature to better take care of our bees 💕

Well, we have a hornets nest nearby 😟😳

I didn’t get to see our lovely bees today. Not a single one. Our ladies are being smart though and staying put inside the hive. Thank goodness our wonky hive has a tiny entrance to help prevent these massive intruders.

Apparently September and October are the peak of Asian giant hornet season 🥴

We are working on plans to make traps and attempt to keep the hornets from attacking our hive. It won’t be possible to get rid of their nest—we don’t know where it is (yet)—but managing the hornets is possible.

We have already learned so much today and will be learning more as we figure this situation out. Thankfully we did have some eyes inside the hive recently, so we know they have been building and doing well. We were just disappointed we couldn’t actually see our lovely ladies today.

On the bright side, I finally had the opportunity to personally get pictures of these massive hornets 😅 ever since the “murder hornet” scare in the states in 2020 I’ve wanted to get pictures of them (we knew we were coming to Japan). So I guess I can check that off my backlist now 😁 I just wish they would go away now….🙃

Our hive is growing and doing great 🤩💛✨

I might not be able to get inside shots like this much longer 😅 they are going to be filling up the box pretty soon.

I’m always amazed at how beautiful they are! Whenever any of us check on the hives, and especially when we open it up and really get to feel and hear their humming/vibrations, our energy and moods are lifted so much ✨ the bees truly lift up our vibration and energy. These sweet honey bees are divine, magical little beings 💛✨🙏🏼

Summer has been quite rough for my family. It has been almost a month and a half since I have gotten to hang out with our bees (don’t worry, they were still being watched over 💛). My family has kept getting hit with sickness this summer 😭 but thankfully we were able to make a trip and enjoy time with our friends and our bees yesterday—so needed!

While getting pictures of what I could inside the hive—which I can’t wait to share soon—I had several ladies climb onto my arm and hand. Boy did my heart need that! Such sweet and beautiful gals 😍🥰✨🐝

I love how whenever I am around the hive and especially when I open it up to see and feel their incredible energy, it truly lifts up my vibration and energy 💛✨🙏🏼 it’s magical!

I am so grateful!!! I hope you can find some sweet and simple magic sprinkled throughout your day ✨

Connecting with our hive and sending the colony Reiki feels truly magical 💕✨🙏🏼

Feeling the strong flow of Reiki along with the hummmm and high vibrations of the bees is such a happy place for me.

I am truly grateful for 1) being a channel for Reiki energy and 2) being able to send the love and light of Reiki to Mother Nature and her divine beings 🙏🏼💕🐝🌱🌏

I look forward to any honey that we may get to collect this year—I know it will be full of love, light, and the pure sweetness of life ✨💫🌸🐝💕

Can you spot the drones??? 👀🐝✨

Did you know that all of the honey bees you see flower hoping and gathering are female worker bees?!? You probably haven’t seen a male honey bee (drone) out and about.

While very important for the hive, drones are only there to mate with Queens. And possibly help cool off the hive at time. But that’s about it 😅

I was pretty happy to see that we do have drones present ☺️🙌🏼✨ They are bigger than the female worker bees. Their bigger eyes also help give them away.

Like I mentioned before, our active hive was having an ant problem. We didn’t want to kill the ants, but we needed to change the hive setup/placement to prevent the ants from getting inside.

✨We found a base with four legs we could put the hive on top of

✨We placed a wood board down to create a more level base for our new stand (it’s a bonus the board is big enough for two hives to sit on ☺️🙌🏼)

✨We set the legs inside of Tupperware and poured oil to create moat around each leg.

It has now been a few weeks since we did this new set up and I am thrilled to say it has been working ☺️🙌🏼

Bees are such hard workers! When there are unwanted guests they have to work even harder protecting the hive.

You can see one of the workers dealing with the ants.

We needed to change up the hive setup so the ants could not climb up into the hive. Killing the ants are not an option for us—we just need to prevent them from getting to the hive.
