A Mizuwari, whisky mixed with water and ice, is one of the most iconic ways whisky is enjoyed in Japan today. But there was a time when whisky was seen as something reserved for bars and after-dinner drinks.

Whisky could belong alongside Japanese cuisine.

The Mizuwari became the bridge. By opening up the whisky's aromas and creating a lighter, more food-friendly drinking experience, it paired naturally with the delicate flavors of Japanese cooking.

Through partnerships with restaurants and a deep understanding of how people actually eat and drink, Suntory helped transform whisky from a drink enjoyed after the meal into one enjoyed with it.

A reminder that great craftsmanship is not only about what is in the glass, but also how it fits into people's lives.

Because every drink becomes more meaningful when it's crafted for the moments it's meant to be enjoyed.

Peat is only one part of the story. Behind it are peatlands.

These landscapes naturally filter water, store carbon, and support diverse ecosystems, while also providing the peat that shapes the distinctive character of many Scotch whiskies. Their role goes far beyond the distillery, reminding us that every bottle begins with the land

But many of Scotland’s peatlands have been damaged. Over decades, peatlands have been drained for land development and agriculture, while peat has also been extracted for horticulture and fuel. As a result, these remarkable landscapes are becoming less able to store carbon, regulate water, and produce the peat they are known for.

We believe that protecting Scotland’s peatlands is part of respecting the places behind our Scotch whiskies.

That belief inspired the launch of our Peatland Water Sanctuary™ (PWS) in 2021. Our mission is to replenish twice the amount of peat used annually in our Scotch whiskies by 2040. Working alongside scientists and local partners, we’re restoring Scotland’s peatlands through long-term research and conservation efforts.

Every great whisky has a story. We’re proud to help protect one of its oldest chapters.

Music. Community. Culture.

At Suntory, creating enriching experiences has always extended beyond what’s in the glass.

This belief is reflected in Suntory’s long-standing partnership with Carnegie Hall. For more than 40 years, the two organizations have shared a commitment to the arts, and since 2006, have worked together to support music education, cultural exchange, and opportunities for the next generation of artists.

Since becoming one of Carnegie Hall’s Major Sponsors in 2022, Suntory has continued to strengthen this partnership by supporting performances and creating memorable experiences for guests.

Recently, members of Carnegie Hall Explorers and Notables donor groups gathered at Carnegie Hall to experience Hibiki alongside a live musical performance—an evening that explored how craftsmanship can be expressed across different forms of artistry. But the event was about more than whisky or music alone. It was about bringing people together through shared moments of creativity, discovery, and connection.

From the arts and culture to hospitality and community, Suntory has long believed that creating value means contributing to experiences that enrich people’s lives.

Because some of the most meaningful moments are the ones we share.

Some journeys begin in the distillery. Others begin thousands of years earlier.

Before peat reaches the distillery, it spends thousands of years slowly forming under wet conditions. Time transforms ancient plant matter into one of nature’s most remarkable resources — later used to bring smoky depth and complexity to many Scotch whiskies.

From Laphroaig to Bowmore and Ardmore, peat has long been an essential part of our lineup of Scotch whiskies. Understanding where these flavors begin means looking beyond the distillery to the landscapes that have shaped them for centuries.

Every bottle tells a story of craftsmanship. Sometimes, that story begins long before the first cask is filled.

Because every remarkable craft has a story worth understanding.

Suntory says that water has a bigger impact on whisky than most people realize, and that “without good water, good whisky cannot be created.”

At Yamazaki, we draw natural water from the same underground source as Rikyū no Mizu—one of Japan’s most celebrated waters.
At Hakushu, water filtered for decades through granite gives a fresh, clean aroma. Each water source brings its own character, shaping the flavors we craft in every bottle.

Protecting this precious resource for the future is part of our commitment, because the best whisky can only be made by living in harmony with nature.

Everything tastes better with care behind it.

What do birds have to do with whisky? More than you might think.

Birds are among the most sensitive indicators of a healthy ecosystem. Because they respond quickly to changes in their environment, birds often leave when forests become unhealthy and return when nature recovers—making them a powerful sign of a thriving ecosystem. When birds can thrive, it is often a sign that forests, water sources, and biodiversity are thriving as well.

That connection is one reason why Suntory has supported wild bird conservation since 1973. Protecting birds means protecting forests. And healthy forests help create healthy water, filtering rain through soil and vegetation into the pure groundwater that helps shape the distinctive taste and quality of Suntory whisky.

In other words, protecting birds helps protect the ecosystems that make great drinks possible.

Because great craftsmanship begins long before the distillery.
It begins with the natural environments that sustain it.

Every drink becomes more meaningful when we care for what makes it possible.

Today, Roku Gin is recognized around the world as a premium Japanese gin. But Suntory's journey with gin began long before "Japanese gin" was even a category.

In 1936, Suntory introduced Hermes Dry Gin, helping lay the foundations for Japan's emerging cocktail and bar culture. At a time when Western spirits were still new to Japan, Suntory embraced the challenge of adapting and refining them for Japanese tastes.

That spirit continues today. From Hermes Dry Gin to Roku Gin, Suntory has spent generations exploring new ways to express flavor and craftsmanship—from capturing the character of six Japanese botanicals to refining blending and distillation techniques in pursuit of ever-better quality.

That commitment lives on at Suntory's Osaka Plant, the company's oldest existing production site. More than a century after its founding, Suntory invested ¥6.5 billion in a new Osaka Spirits & Liqueurs Craft Distillery, bringing together carefully selected ingredients, diverse distillation methods, and expert blending to support the next generation of Japanese spirits.

In 2025, those efforts were recognized globally when Suntory became the first Japanese producer to receive the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) Liqueur Producer Trophy.

At Suntory, craftsmanship is never finished. It continues to evolve, generation after generation.
Because every bottle carries the story of those who never stop pursuing something better.

Our blenders don’t just work in the distillery—they sometimes go straight to the forests where the barrels’ wood begins its journey, because every Suntory whisky starts with nature’s great gifts.

Our Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo and his team travel specifically to the regions where our Spanish oak and Mizunara are sourced, learning from the land and from the people involved in every stage of the wood’s transformation—from selecting and shaping the wood to the craft of cooperage. Because the whisky inside depends on all of it.

The wood’s character shapes aroma, flavor, and color. This hands-on care to understand the very first steps of barrel making helps bring depth, connection, and meaning to every glass.

Everything tastes better with meaning behind it.

At Suntory Hall, music is shared—and life is celebrated.

Born from Suntory’s founding spirit of Giving Back to Society, Suntory Hall will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2026. Opened in 1986 as Tokyo’s first dedicated concert hall, it was created in pursuit of “the world’s most beautiful sound” — a dream long cherished by Suntory’s second president, Keizo Saji.

During Japan’s rapid economic growth, Keizo Saji sought more than material wealth. Guided by his belief in pursuing true richness of life, he envisioned a space where people could experience deeper fulfillment—because whether through music or through drinks, both share the same purpose.

Every detail matters: vineyard-style seating, brilliant acoustics, immersive moments—and the drink corner “Intermezzo,” the first of its kind introduced in Japan. Here, guests can enjoy beer, wine, whisky, coffee, tea, as well as ice cream and sandwiches, taking a moment to relax with a glass of wine or beer between performances.

For Suntory, creating isn’t just about making products—it’s about giving back to society and enriching people’s lives. Every note, every performance, every moment here reflects the pursuit of the brilliance of life.

And when meaning shapes the moment, it carries forward.

Great flavor begins long before distillation. It begins with nature itself.

In creating Roku Gin, Suntory works with six Japanese botanicals chosen to express the beauty of Japan’s four seasons. But capturing nature at its peak requires more than simply selecting great ingredients.

Sakura flowers, for example, are steeped within just 26 hours of harvest to preserve their delicate aroma at its freshest. Rather than distilling all botanicals together, Roku Gin uses multiple distillation methods and separate distillations for different ingredients, allowing each botanical’s unique character to be expressed with precision before being brought together in harmony.

It is a meticulous process shaped by countless decisions, experiments, and refinements—all in pursuit of expressing the best of each ingredient nature provides.

At Suntory, the pursuit of better flavor never stops. Season after season, we continue to refine, explore, and challenge ourselves in search of new possibilities.

Because every flavor becomes more meaningful when each ingredient is treated with care.
