RED CHILI 🌶️ PEPPER OPPORTUNITY

Popular varieties with ready market:
Demon chili, Cayenne chili, Red Thunder chili and Teja chili.
1. We provide F1 seedlings. Seedlings are for first come, first serve basis for kshs 7 bob per seedlings. Book to avoid stock out. Proper plant population for One acre is 15,000 seedlings depending on mode irrigation system you choose

2. Market is available throughout the year. Local and not export. No seasons. Everyday.
*At Kenya chillies We buy red fresh chili 🌶️ pepper and red dry chili pepper. For green 🌶️ pepper it has a strict spray program.

3. We provide farmers contracts to those who require but we don't lock out anyone to supply us.

4. You can sell your chili 🌶️ pepper to anyone else but you can always count on us to buy promptly and cash/mpesa on delivery or collection.

5. We are buying everywhere in East Africa countries. Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi and Malawi. Prices defer due to transport costs.

6. Chili 🌶️ pepper farming requires supplement water supply; for irrigation after the rains stop. This is to ensure maximum production.

7. The best irrigation system for chili 🌶️ pepper farming is drip irrigation system. Its more effective, efficient and can accommodate more chili plant population than other irrigation methods.

8. Agronomy services from us are free (contract farmers)and no payments required. This is to ensure you get maximum production and we get more chili pepper 🌶️ volumes. Incase you need more specialized agronomy services, we will refer you to our partners, who charge a small fee.

9. Chili pepper takes an average of 90 days (3 months) from seedling to maturity and the first major harvest.

10. On maturity of the chili plant, harvesting is done every 14-15 days, which is twice a month. Expected yield per harvest is 1000kg to 1500kg depending on plant population. So for a good farmer, 2000kg to 3000kg of fresh red chili 🌶️ per month.

11. Depending on proper farm care and use of good agricultural practices, you can harvest the same chili plant for upto 6 months. Others go for 12 months with good feeding and crop protection.

12. After the 6 months, you can prune the chili plants for extended harvesting period of about 3 or more months.

13. Chili pepper plants require crop protection, that is pesticides. This is to protect the leaves from pests like thrips, caterpillars and mites. Leaves through photosynthesis ensure maximum fruit yields.

14. Chili pepper plants also require fungicides to protect the plant from blight (baridi) and other fungus. Fertilizers and manure boost the production.

15. Payments of delivered or collected chili 🌶️ is cash or mpesa. No delays or debts. Fresh Red Chilli pepper is Kshs 60-70 per kilo. Dry red chili pepper with stalks at Kshs 120-150. Pure Red dry chili pepper 🌶️ without stalks at Kshs! 160-190.Those are the minimum prices from us. PLEASE NOTE: These are prices for RED 🌶️ CHILI PEPPER ONLY and not YELLOW, BLACK OR WHITE chili.

16. For profitability and business sense, please plan to farm 1 acre and above. Less than an acre is not economically viable.

17. You can visit our existing farmers at a fee and with their permission. Should you want to see before embarking on the project.

18. Chili pepper is a good crop, as you can sell green, red and even dry chili pepper. No wastage.

19. If your cost of production is more than Kshs 35 per kilo, there could be something or someone eating into your production.

20. Utilize those idle farms in your rural areas by planting chili pepper. You can intercrop chili with maize or beans. You get food and cash.
Let's make 2025 productive
N.B :Chili pepper doesn't do well in very cold places. Even when it grows, it doesn't give maximum production. Avoid cold areas like Limuru or higher part of Nyahuhuru; that are well known for extreme cold weather.

CAUSES OF MOLD IN DRY CHILLIES

1. Moisture:
a)Excessive humidity:
High humidity, whether in the growing environment or during storage, can lead to mold growth.
b)Inadequate drying:
Insufficient drying after harvest leaves chili peppers susceptible to mold.
c)Water ingress:
Moisture can also enter through damaged packaging or during storage if not properly sealed.

2. Damage:
a)Physical damage: Bruises or other damage to the chili peppers can create entry points for mold spores.
b)Pest infestations: Pests can damage the peppers, making them more vulnerable to mold.

3. Storage Conditions:
a)Warm temperatures:
Mold thrives in warm conditions, so storing chili peppers in a cool, dry place is essential.
b)Poor ventilation:
Insufficient airflow can trap moisture and create a favorable environment for mold.

4. Specific Fungal Issues:
a)Powdery mildew:
This fungal disease can affect chili plants, causing white powdery patches on leaves and fruit, leading to potential mold growth.
b)Downy mildew:
Another fungal disease that can affect chili peppers, especially in humid conditions, leading to leaf damage and potential mold problems.
c)Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus:
These fungi can contaminate chili peppers, potentially producing aflatoxins, which are harmful.

5. Other Factors:
a)Calcium imbalance:
In some cases, a calcium deficiency can lead to blossom end rot, which can also be a precursor to mold growth.
b)Kahm yeast:
In chili mashes, Kahm yeast can form from naturally occurring yeasts in the environment.

EFFECTS OF POOR STORAGE IN DRY CHILLI FARMING

1.Mold and Fungal Growth:
Excess moisture and warm temperatures during storage can encourage mold growth, leading to visible mold filaments or spores.

2.Loss of Firmness and Texture:
Healthy dried chilies should be somewhat pliable and firm. Poor storage can cause them to become soft, slimy, or even mushy.

3.Color Changes:
Oxidation and fungal growth can cause the chilies to discolor, often appearing brown or black.
3.Loss of Flavor and Aroma:

The aromatic oils in chilies can dissipate over time, especially in poor storage, leading to a bland or tasteless product.

4.Pitting and Water-Soaked Areas:
Chilies are sensitive to chilling injury below certain temperatures, which can cause pitting or water-soaked areas on the surface.

5.Insect Infestation:
Stored product insects can also damage dried chilies during prolonged storage, reducing their quality and potentially contaminating them.
