Here are four reasons why livestock, particularly cattle, might be dehorned:

1. *Safety*: Dehorning reduces the risk of injury to handlers, other animals, and the animal itself. Horns can cause significant harm during handling, transportation, or when animals interact with each other.

2. *Reduced Damage*: Horned animals can cause damage to fences, equipment, and other infrastructure on the farm. Dehorning minimizes the potential for such damage.

3. *Easier Handling*: Dehorned animals are often easier to handle and manage, as they pose less risk of injury to handlers. This can make tasks like veterinary care, feeding, and milking more manageable.

4. *Improved Welfare*: In some cases, dehorning is done to prevent injuries that might occur during fights among animals, particularly in crowded or stressful conditions. By removing the horns, the risk of injury from horn-related aggression is reduced.

Dehorning is a practice that should be carried out with careful consideration and under appropriate veterinary guidance to ensure it is done humanely and with minimal stress to the animal.
