Small Hands. Big Impact. 🌱

There is something powerful about watching a child plant a seedling.

Not because of the seedling itself, but because of what it represents: knowledge being passed on, confidence being built, and a future generation learning that food does not simply come from supermarket shelves—it is grown through care, patience, and effort.

Recently, learners at Kibiko Primary School rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty as they planted vegetable seedlings in the school's multistorey gardens. These weren't just any seedlings. They were healthy, greenhouse-propagated seedlings transplanted with their root systems intact, minimizing transplant shock and ensuring an almost 100% survival rate.

This hands-on experience is helping members of the school's 4K Club understand important agricultural principles from an early age—from seedling management and crop establishment to sustainable food production in limited spaces.

Imagine the possibilities if every school embraced practical food-growing projects like this.

Imagine learners graduating not only with academic knowledge, but also with the skills and confidence to grow their own food, support their families, improve nutrition, and become future innovators in agriculture.

At Kibiko Primary School, that future is already taking shape.

This initiative has been made possible through a partnership between Farming Wonder, Rockefeller Foundation, and Cereal Growers Association, demonstrating what can happen when organizations come together to invest in young minds and food-secure communities.

The seedlings planted today will provide vegetables in the months ahead. More importantly, the lessons planted today could last a lifetime.

Because when we teach children how to grow food, we are not just growing vegetables—we are growing resilience, responsibility, and hope.

This week, Farming Wonder is proud to participate in the 2026 World Farmers' Organisation (WFO) Annual Meeting at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi.

Bringing together farmers, policymakers, researchers, investors, and development partners from across the globe, this year's theme "Future Fields: Investing in Farmers' Organisations and Empowering Communities for Sustainable Agriculture" could not be more timely.

At Farming Wonder, we have spent the last decade demonstrating that limited space should never limit food production. Through our Multistorey Gardens, we are helping households, schools, institutions, and communities grow more food, use less water, and create sustainable livelihoods.

Our participation at WFO2026 has been made possible through the support of the Rockefeller Foundation, whose commitment to resilient food systems continues to create opportunities for innovators and farmers to learn, collaborate, and scale impact.

As conversations on the future of agriculture take center stage this week, we look forward to sharing our experiences from Kenya, learning from global farmer leaders, and building partnerships that can accelerate food security, climate resilience, and economic empowerment across Africa.

The future of agriculture is not only in vast fields it is also in schools, urban spaces, backyards, and communities where innovation meets opportunity.
