NYOTA PROJECT – 2ND TRANCHE | EMBU, THARAKA NITHI & MERU COUNTIES

Today at Kirubia Stadium, Chuka, we witnessed another major milestone in empowering Kenya's youth through the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project.

The NYOTA Project is a flagship initiative of the Kenya Kwanza Government aimed at creating jobs and economic opportunities for over 820,000 vulnerable and marginalized youth across the country.

In this second tranche, more than 6,150 young people from Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Meru Counties are benefiting from a total investment of KSh 153.75 million. These funds are supporting youth-led businesses, creating jobs, promoting entrepreneurship, and transforming lives through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda championed by H.E. President William Samoei Ruto.

This is more than financial support—it is an investment in the dreams, innovation, and future of Kenya's young people. Through the NYOTA Project, the Government is strengthening youth employability, expanding economic opportunities, and empowering the next generation to build sustainable livelihoods.

I was honoured to be joined by CS for Water Eric Mugaa, Governor Cecily Mbarire, PS Betsy Njagi, PS Patrick Kilemi, Deputy Governor Muisraeli Nyaga, Senator Alexander Mundigi, MP Patrick Munene, MP Mugambi Rindikiri, Nominated MP Muthoni, members of the NGAO team, MCAs, senior government officials, and community leaders.

🚉 RAIL TO AFCON 2027 🇰🇪

Kenya Railways has begun construction of a new commuter rail line linking Nairobi CBD to Talanta Sports City ahead of AFCON 2027.

🚆 Route: 📍 Central Station → 📍 Nyayo Stadium → 📍 Kibera → 📍 Talanta Sports City

This approach follows the successful transport models used during the London 2012 Olympics and the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, where high-capacity rail networks played a key role in moving thousands of fans efficiently.

The project is being delivered by CRBC and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on a 24-hour construction schedule, with completion targeted for October 2026.

Beyond AFCON 2027, the railway will continue serving Nairobi residents as part of the city's expanding commuter rail network—creating a lasting transport legacy for Kenya.

At the invitation of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), through the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Horn of Africa, and hosted by the German Ambassador to Kenya, Sebastian Groth, I had the honour of attending the Climate, Peace and Security Luncheon at the German Embassy Residence.

The discussions reaffirmed that climate action is not only an environmental priority but also a cornerstone of peace, stability, and sustainable development across the Horn of Africa.

I highlighted Kenya's Chiefs' Climate Action Day Initiative as a transformative grassroots model that brings together climate action, early warning systems, conflict prevention, and ecological restoration. Through this initiative, more than 3,400 Chiefs are helping strengthen real-time environmental risk reporting while mobilising communities to protect forests, restore ecosystems, and build resilience against climate change.

The initiative is also a key pillar in the Presidential campaign to grow 15 billion trees by 2032—a bold national commitment to restore degraded landscapes, expand forest cover, safeguard biodiversity, and secure a greener, more climate-resilient future for generations to come.

Together, through partnership, innovation, and community leadership, we can turn the challenge of climate change into an opportunity for peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.

Leadership is about creating opportunities and thinking long-term.

I like the way President William Ruto has approached the conversation around industrialisation and energy. The discussions surrounding a possible Dangote refinery investment have sparked an important national debate about how Kenya can add value to its natural resources, create jobs, strengthen energy security, and reduce the cost of doing business.

If Kenya attracts more major investments in refining and manufacturing, the benefits could include: ✅ More jobs for young people. ✅ Lower logistics and production costs. ✅ Greater energy security. ✅ Increased regional competitiveness.

Constructive debate is healthy, but so is supporting ideas that can grow our economy and improve livelihoods.

Today marks a historic milestone for Kenya.

The signing into law of the Sovereign Wealth Fund Act, 2026 establishes a national investment fund that will preserve wealth generated from our natural resources and strategic investments for the benefit of both present and future generations.

This landmark legislation introduces strong safeguards to ensure that revenues from petroleum, minerals, and other strategic national assets are managed prudently rather than being exhausted by the current generation.

The Fund is built on three key pillars:

• Stabilisation Fund – to protect the economy against external shocks and financial volatility.
• Strategic Investment Window – to finance transformative national development projects and create jobs.
• Urithi Fund (Future Generations Fund) – to invest 30% of petroleum and mineral revenues so that future generations also benefit from Kenya's natural wealth.

This means that the wealth created today will continue serving our children and grandchildren, while the remaining revenues will strengthen economic stability and accelerate national development.

The Sovereign Wealth Fund is the second major financial institution established under the Government's economic transformation agenda, following the creation of the National Infrastructure Fund in March 2026 to mobilise private capital for development projects.

A nation that plans for future generations builds lasting prosperity. Kenya has taken a significant step toward securing its economic future.

Former ICT Cabinet Secretary and ex-Deputy Chief of Staff in the Office of the President, Eliud Owalo, will officially unveil Kenya's newest political party tomorrow, Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the party headquarters in Nairobi.

The much-anticipated launch comes months after Owalo formally declared his intention to contest the presidency in the 2027 General Election. The former Kenya Kwanza administration insider has maintained that he is "not a project of President William Ruto" and that his ambition is driven by a genuine desire to transform Kenya.

Owalo, who previously served as a key strategist for both President Ruto and the late ODM leader Raila Odinga, has hinted at plans to 'challenge his former boss in 2027'. He has also urged President Ruto to forgo the 2027 race and instead back his bid, arguing it would be a reciprocal gesture for his support in 2022.

They hate William Ruto with a passion… 😤 not because he is perfect, but because he is disrupting a system that many had grown comfortable benefiting from.
Ladies and gentlemen, before Ruto, we lived in a country where priorities often raised serious questions… 🇰🇪
1. Selective road development 🛣️
It made economic sense to invest heavily in the Thika Superhighway—a project that cost over KSh 30 billion and cut travel time by more than 50% ⏱️
But upgrading the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway and improving the Nairobi–Malaba Highway—which carries over 70% of Kenya’s cargo to Uganda, Rwanda, and beyond 🚛—was delayed for years.
Kenyans lost millions of productive hours annually due to congestion and poor road conditions 😓
2. Railway priorities 🚆
The Standard Gauge Railway cost approximately KSh 450+ billion from Mombasa to Naivasha.
Yet, it stopped before reaching Kisumu or Malaba—missing the opportunity to fully connect to East Africa’s trade network 🌍
Meanwhile:
The old railway operated at less than 30% efficiency
Transport costs for cargo remained significantly higher than global averages
Many asked: why invest so much and stop before maximizing regional trade impact? 🤔
3. Road priorities and economic fairness ⚖️
Some roads received quicker upgrades, like the Nairobi–Nyeri Road, while the vital Nairobi–Mombasa Highway—handling over 80% of goods from the Port of Mombasa 🚢—remained congested and overstretched.
This is despite the fact that:
The corridor contributes a huge share of Kenya’s GDP movement
Traffic delays reportedly cost businesses billions of shillings annually
The question was simple: Are we developing regions—or building a nation? 🇰🇪
Today, under William Ruto, the narrative is changing 🔄
Projects once dismissed as “not economically viable” are now being reconsidered:
Expansion of key highways 🚧
Push to extend SGR toward Western Kenya 📍
Focus on inclusive, nationwide infrastructure 📈
And that is why you see the resistance ⚠️

Western Kenya must begin thinking strategically about its political future.
For too long, we have allowed ourselves to be divided by personalities instead of focusing on long-term bargaining power. Leaders like Edwin Sifuna, George Natembeya, and Musalia Mudavadi each represent different political directions, but the bigger question is this: what is Western negotiating for as a bloc?
Other regions have mastered the art of political hedging. When you look at figures such as Uhuru Kenyatta and Rigathi Gachagua, you can see how Central Kenya often positions itself to remain relevant in both government and opposition during transitions. That is strategy — not emotion.
Meanwhile, Western Kenya must ask itself:
What is our unified agenda?
What development guarantees are we demanding?
Are we mobilizing voters massively?
Who is sitting at the negotiation table on our behalf?
Are we divided by internal rivalries?
Numbers alone are not power.
Unity without direction is not leverage.
Noise without negotiation achieves nothing.
If we truly believe we are a numerical force, then we must:
Strengthen grassroots mobilization.
Increase voter registration and turnout.
Agree on minimum regional demands.
Stop clapping for leaders without clear strategy.
Build economic and political structures at the ward level.
Politics is local before it is national.
Power is negotiated, not donated.
Western Kenya must move from emotional politics to strategic politics.
The question is no longer who we dislike.
The question is: what are we positioning ourselves to gain?
