August isn't even over yet and we've already dispensed over 40,000 litres of water from our borehole (some of it shared with the community before our Water ATM was even installed).

When we first embarked on this journey, we set out with clear intentions:

🌾 To liberate the people of this land from the harshness of the dry season.

🕊️ To mitigate the conflicts that so often erupt around water holes.

🐐 To break the cycle where thirsty livestock force men to migrate into other people's territories, sparking disputes that could have been avoided altogether.

For us it's about peace, dignity, and the right to stay rooted in the land you call home.

And with every litre dispensed, and every neighbour who no longer has to migrate, it's safe to say we are steadily achieving what we set out to do, for our ranch, our community and the region. 🙏

There are certain tasks that can only be undertaken during the dry season.

As John F. Kennedy once said:
“The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining.”

This month, we embarked on demarcating and fencing our “Kwa Machine” property.

Because ever since our Water ATM went live,
livestock and herds from across the region have been converging on our land to quench their thirst.

Which in reality is a beautiful thing, however, as they make their way to the water point, they graze down our pasture, leaving little behind for our own animals.

Throughout my high school and university years my Mom used to own and manage a few butcheries.

Whenever an employee needed time off, she’d put on the white coat herself and step in.

This act inevitably roped me in what we now call the meat value chain.

I saw her cut herself while chopping up meat for the clients.

We struggled together to lift beef carcasses onto the hook that displays the animal.

Lazily woke up at 4:30am every day to be at the meat market to secure fresh delivers amongst several other, warrior tales that if we were to list each, would make this post lengthy.

Some may say the JM ranch journey began back then.

What we know is that the path we’ve been on is fully God guide.
