Recent times, Kenya has witnessed a systemic breakdown within our labor system, characterized by the total neglect of the rights and welfare of the hundreds of thousands of County Government workers who form the backbone of service delivery at the grassroots level. Many of these dedicated ordinary Kenyans have faced inordinate salary delays - sometimes extending to several months - without a salary pay, resulting in significant hardship, uncertainty, and a sense of being overlooked.

This pressing and urgent issue necessitated my meeting today with H.E Ahmed Abdullahi EGH , The Chairman of The Council of Governors in Kenya. It was both an honor and a profound platform to have a candid and constructive dialogue focused on how we can jointly safeguard the rights and welfare of our county government workers, addressing structural and systemic issues that impact effective and efficient public service delivery at the county level.

We also recognized the critical importance of our healthcare professionals - including doctors, community health workers, and medical interns - whose roles have been devolved to county administrations. Their posting, absorption, and overall well-being remain a top priority as they serve on the frontline of public health and community well-being.

As a collective, we have unanimously agreed on the urgent need to establish a robust, sustainable, and comprehensive framework that embeds the welfare of county workers at the very core of our policy and governance processes. It is our shared responsibility to ensure that their rights, dignity, and well-being are protected and prioritized in every policy decision we make.

This is not only an administrative matter but a moral obligation.
