Career Mothers For Exclusive Breastfeeding Campaign It is a health issue, an economic issue, a labor issue, and a human rights issue.

CAMFEB, Career Mothers For Exclusive Breastfeeding, is a campaign that aims to encourage and support new mothers, especially working mothers, to carry out exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a child’s life as recommended by WHO. We endeavor to support all mothers working in both the formal and informal sectors to adequately combine work and child rearing, particularly exclusive breastfeeding. The issue of Women and work according to World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) is about enabling women to successfully combine their reproductive and productive roles. Today more and more of child-bearing age are working outside the household, in work that keeps them far from home for long hours and with ridged schedules making it ever harder for new mothers to exclusively breastfeed once they go back to work before the children reach six months of age. We envision to have all career mothers to exclusively breastfeed their children for six months and breastfeed up to 2 years with complementary foods and drinks. We will endeavor to advocate for a bill into parliament that will ultimately become a law in Kenya for all new mothers to be allowed to work half-day for three months after their maternity leave to help them achieve exclusive breastfeeding.

CAMFEB was pleased to participate in the Pregnancy Fair at WAMA Hospital yesterday, where we engaged expectant and the community on breastfeeding and the importance of having the right support throughout their breastfeeding journey.

We shared practical information on preparing for breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding, and the role that families, healthcare providers and workplaces can play in supporting mothers.

We also had the pleasure of giving goodies to some mothers who participated in the session, adding a little extra joy to a day of learning, sharing and connecting.

Supporting breastfeeding starts with ensuring mothers have the right information, encouragement and support from pregnancy and beyond.
