YOUR FARM HAS A STORY. ARE YOU KEEPING THE RECORDS THAT TELL IT?
A farmer who keeps good records can make decisions using actual farm experience instead of relying entirely on memory.
Start by recording the date each seedling was planted, its variety, the source of the seedling, watering practices, fertilizer applications, pest problems, and treatments used.
As the trees grow, record flowering dates, fruit set, harvesting quantities, rejected produce, and sales.
These records help you identify patterns. You may discover that one section of the orchard repeatedly suffers from waterlogging or that certain trees perform poorly despite receiving similar care.
You can then investigate the reasons and make adjustments.
A notebook is enough to begin. You do not need expensive software to organise your farming information.
Make your records simple, accurate, and consistent. Review them regularly and use them when planning the next season.
Remember, the aim is not just to record what happened. It is to use that information to improve future decisions.
