Letting your rabbits spend even an hour outside daily in a secure enclosed space does things that no supplement can replicate.
Natural sunlight activates Vitamin D production — stronger bones, better immunity.
Fresh grass they forage themselves is more nutritious than cut grass placed in a feeder.
And the movement reduces stress, improves appetite, and makes for calmer, faster growing animals.

If You are MIXING Your CHICKEN FEED Read this🌾🐔

Feed mixing is becoming popular among small scale poultry farmers in Kenya.
And for good reason.
Commercial feed is expensive. And buying it every week puts serious pressure on your farming budget especially when you are running a large flock.
Mixing your own feed — when done correctly — can significantly reduce your costs while maintaining the nutritional quality your birds need to grow well.
But here is where many farmers go wrong.
They mix randomly.
They use whatever is available and affordable without understanding what their birds actually need nutritionally at each stage of growth.
The result is a feed mixture that looks full but is nutritionally empty — and birds that eat all day but grow slowly because the key nutrients are missing or imbalanced.

Here is what a basic homemade feed mix for growing chickens should contain.
Maize germ or whole maize — this provides the energy your birds need to stay active and grow. It should form the largest portion of your mix, roughly 50 to 55 percent.
Soya meal or sunflower cake — this is your protein source. Protein is what builds muscle and drives growth. It should form about 25 to 30 percent of the mix.
Fishmeal — a small amount of high quality fishmeal adds concentrated protein and essential amino acids that plant sources alone cannot fully provide. Around 5 to 8 percent is sufficient.
Lime or bone meal — this provides calcium and phosphorus for strong bone development. Critical especially for growing birds. About 2 to 3 percent.
A premix — this covers vitamins and minerals that the other ingredients do not provide in adequate amounts. Follow the dosage on the premix packaging carefully.

The ratios matter.
Too much maize and not enough protein produces birds that are full of energy but not building muscle.
Too much protein without enough energy and your birds burn through feed without converting it to growth efficiently.
Get the balance right and you will see the difference in your birds within two to three weeks of switching.

One important thing to always remember.
The ingredients you use must be fresh and properly stored.
Moldy or poorly stored maize introduces aflatoxins into your feed — a toxin that is invisible, odorless, and deadly to poultry over time.
Store your raw ingredients in a cool dry place and use them within a reasonable time frame.

Feed mixing done right is one of the smartest cost saving strategies in poultry farming.
But it rewards the farmer who takes it seriously — not the one who does it carelessly.

CANNIBALISM IN CHICKEN — COMMON PROBLEM THAT FARMERS DON'T KNOW HOW TO SOLVE IT. 🐔⚠️

Cannibalism in poultry sounds extreme.
But it is far more common on Kenyan farms than most farmers want to admit.
And it is one of the most destructive problems you can face in a flock because once it starts and spreads it is very difficult to reverse without significant losses.
Understanding what causes it and how to stop it early is one of the most important things you can know as a poultry farmer.

What is cannibalism in chickens?
It is when birds in a flock begin pecking, injuring, and sometimes killing and eating each other.
It usually starts with feather pecking — birds pulling feathers from each other especially around the back, tail, and vent area.
Once skin is broken and blood is visible the situation escalates rapidly.
Chickens are strongly attracted to the color red.
Blood on a wound draws every bird in the flock to peck at that same spot repeatedly.
A bird that is not removed immediately can be pecked to death within hours.

What causes cannibalism?
Overcrowding is the number one trigger.
When birds do not have enough space they become stressed and aggressive.
That aggression needs an outlet and other birds in the flock become the target.
Poor ventilation contributes significantly.
Heat stress and poor air quality make birds irritable and more likely to engage in aggressive behavior.
Nutritional deficiency — particularly protein and sodium deficiency — drives birds to seek those nutrients from other birds including through feather eating and wound pecking.
Boredom plays a role too.
Birds with nothing to do and nowhere to explore will turn their energy toward each other.
Bright continuous lighting is another factor.
Chickens kept under very bright light 24 hours a day are more prone to aggression than those with periods of dimmer light.

How do you stop it?
The first step is always removing the injured bird immediately.
Clean the wound thoroughly and keep the bird separate until it has fully healed.
Returning a bird with a visible wound back to the flock before it heals completely is inviting the same problem to start again.
Address the root cause.
If it is overcrowding — reduce the number of birds in the space or expand the space.
If it is nutritional — review your feed and add a proper protein source.
If it is boredom — hang vegetables like kale inside the house for birds to peck at as a distraction.
Beak trimming is used on large commercial farms but for small scale farmers addressing the root cause is always the better and more humane long term solution.

Cannibalism that is caught early and addressed properly can be stopped.
Cannibalism that is ignored spreads through a flock and by the time you realize the extent of the damage the losses are already significant.
Watch your flock. Know your birds. Act fast when you see the first signs.
