In road safety, it is said that when traffic lights turn green, it is merely an indication that 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗴𝗼. Simply put, green does not always mean " 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗴𝗼", you still have to check if there are some "lumpens" on the road trying to beat the traffic lights. Some people have had fatal accidents even when the traffic lights have permitted them to go (green) because of divorcing use of "common sence" and devoid of defensive driving skills.
Similarly, in farming, the fact that it has started raining 🌧 in your area is merely an indication that 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁. The coming in of rains does not always mean "𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁". Be careful, lots of people are donating seed and fertlisers to the soil because of poor timing. For them, since its raining, they are planting anything and everything without regard to the nature of crops, tolerance to excess rains etc.
At Panuka 2, we are scaling down till February 2023. We know our crops and their behaviour in response to excess rains. We prefer to go in guns blazing when we can control a number of variables including water 💧.
Once we hit February, we will utilise the moisture to descend on the soils to do some spectacular land preparations and do some grand planting. For now, we will focus on refining our planning and plant that which can entertain the rain in its unpredictable fashion including excess rains.
Remember, poor germination means poor yields and overall productivity. That is where Panuka 1 comes in....protected farming 🕺. Its called hedging production risk. Apparently our best farming season is dry season when rain is long gone and our water acquifers are replenished.
Choose your farming battles very well. That is one of the best commandments in farming to avoid being a donor to the soils.
