LNP Records 478 Road Traffic Accidents in First Quarter (Januaryโ€“March) 2026

Monrovia, Liberia โ€“ April 4, 2026

The Liberia National Police (LNP) reports that a total of 478 road traffic accidents were recorded across the country between January and March 2026, resulting in 71 deaths and 309 injuries.
According to the report, March 2026 experienced a significant surge in road traffic incidents, accounting for 186 cases, along with the highest number of fatalities and injuries during the period under review.
The data indicates that car-to-car collisions were the most prevalent type of accidents, followed by motorcycle-related incidents. Together, these two categories accounted for nearly 70 percent of all recorded cases.
In terms of geographic distribution, Montserrado County recorded the highest number of accidents with 279 cases, followed by Nimba County, River Gee County, and Margibi County.
The report further reveals that vehicle operators were the most affected group, while males accounted for the majority of casualties.
The Liberia National Police is urging all road users, including drivers, motorcyclists, and pedestrians, to strictly adhere to traffic regulations. The LNP remains committed to enhancing road safety measures and reducing traffic-related incidents nationwide.

President Boakai Nominates New Chairman of the National Elections Commission

March 30, 2026

Executive Mansion, Monroviaโ€“: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has nominated Mr. Jonathan K. Weedor to serve as Chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC), following the resignation of Madam Davidetta Browne-Lansanah.

Mr. Weedor brings to the position a wealth of experience in electoral administration, governance, and public service. He previously served as Commissioner of the National Elections Commission from 2004 to 2020, during which time he held several key oversight responsibilities, including Human Resources, Finance, and Procurement. He also served as Acting Co-Chairman of the Commission, contributing significantly to the management and credibility of Liberiaโ€™s electoral processes.

In addition to his national service, Mr. Weedor has participated in numerous international electoral missions and engagements across Africa, including assignments with electoral bodies in Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria, as well as observation and assessment missions under the auspices of the African Union and ECOWAS.

Mr. Weedor holds a Master of Arts degree with Honors in Development Studies, with a concentration in Development Management, from the School for International Training in Vermont, United States of America. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in General Forestry from the University of Liberia.

Pending confirmation by the Liberian Senate, President Boakai has directed that Mr. Weedor serve as Acting Chairman of the Commission until the Senate reconvenes from its current recess.

The President has expressed full confidence in Mr. Weedorโ€™s competence, integrity, and professionalism, and expects that under his leadership, the National Elections Commission will continue to uphold the principles of transparency, independence, and credibility in the conduct of elections in Liberia.

Breaking News!! Guinean Soldiers patrol Guinea-Liberia Border in Ganta City Nimba Countyโ€ฆ

The Liberian Public Radio is reporting that Guinean military soldiers have paid a visit to the Gantaโ€“Guinea port of entry.

A large number of Guinean military personnel arrived at the border point today, March 28, 2026, at approximately 5:45 PM.

The delegation was led by a Guinean army official identified as General Camara, who stated that the visit was simply an acquaintance mission to check on his troops stationed at the port of entry.

While addressing senior officers of the Liberia Immigration Service, General Camara emphasized the strong relationship between Guinea and Liberia. He noted that citizens of both countries continue to farm across each otherโ€™s borders, highlighting the deep connection and cooperation between the two nations. He stressed that, based on this shared bond, both countries should continue to see themselves as one.

The Liberia National Police (LNP) wishes to inform the public that it has taken note of a video circulating on social media involving a police officer on a tricycle (commonly known as โ€œkekeโ€).
The officer has been identified as Eriah G. Gbainyee (ID # 2837), assigned to the Police Support Unit at the Central Headquarters.
The LNP further informs the public that the officer has been referred to the Professional Standards Department for a full investigation into the matter.
The Liberia National Police assures the general public that it does not condone any form of unethical conduct by its personnel. The findings of the investigation will be made public upon completion.
The LNP encourages members of the public to continue reporting any acts of police misconduct through the appropriate channels.
