A Christmas Message from Hon. Yekeh Kolubah

As we celebrate this festive season of Christmas, I am compelled to reflect on the state of our country and the overwhelming struggles we face each and every day. This year, the Christmas spirit seems distant, almost unreachable, because of the hard realities that have gripped our nation. The festive season is supposed to be a time of joy, unity, and renewal, yet many of us are left with a deep sense of despair, struggling to make sense of what Christmas truly means in these difficult times.

The country, under the leadership of Joseph Boakai, has failed. Inflation has continued to rise, and basic necessities are becoming more expensive than ever. Jobs are scarce, and for many of our fellow citizens, even the most basic of needs are out of reach. In the face of these struggles, how can we expect to embrace the warmth and cheer that should come with Christmas? How can we sing carols of joy and peace when our people are battling hunger, poverty, and a lack of opportunity?

Under the leadership of Joseph Boakai, we are witnessing a nation that is losing its way. The promises of better governance, of a brighter future for all Liberians, have not materialized. Instead, we find ourselves caught in a cycle of neglect and hardship, with little hope that the future will bring the change we so desperately need. How can we come together as a nation to celebrate Christmas when we are so divided, when the people are suffering and the government's actions feel disconnected from the reality on the ground?

I cannot help but feel that Christmas has become a mere formality in a country that is crying out for real change. It feels as though the lights and decorations on the streets are but a fleeting illusion, masking the deep-rooted issues that have been allowed to fester for too long. The government has failed to deliver on its promises, and the people, the very heart of this nation, are left to bear the brunt of this failure. The Christmas season, which should be a time of hope and renewal, has instead become a painful reminder of all that is missing in our country.

The gap between the leaders and the people has never been wider. While our struggle to put food on the table and meet the basic needs of their families, we leaders continue to live in luxury, out of touch with the realities of everyday Liberians. It is no surprise that for many, this Christmas feels hollow, as though the very essence of the holiday is out of reach. When the government fails to provide for its people, when the hopes of the citizens are dashed time and time again, how can we expect the Christmas spirit to flourish?

But despite the hardship, despite the challenges we face, there is one thing that remains true: the resilience of the Liberian people. We have endured so much, and yet we continue to fight for a better tomorrow. Even in these trying times, we find ways to come together, to support one another, and to hold on to the little joys that life still offers. This is the true spirit of Christmas—the ability to love and care for each other, even when the world around us is falling apart.

However, it is crucial that we acknowledge the reality of our situation and demand the change that is so desperately needed. The Christmas our people are experiencing today is not the Christmas they deserve. They deserve a government that cares for its people, that provides for their needs, that works to ensure a brighter, more prosperous future for all Liberians. They deserve leadership that will not allow the darkness of poverty and corruption to overshadow the light of hope. Until that day comes, They will continue to struggle, and Christmas will remain an unfulfilled promise for far too many.

So as we reflect on this Christmas season, let us remember the challenges we face as a nation. Let us not pretend that all is well when so many Liberians are suffering. Let us hold those in power accountable, and let us continue to push for the Liberia we know is possible—a Liberia where the Christmas spirit is not a fleeting dream but a reality for all. Let us fight for a nation where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive, where no one has to suffer in silence, and where Christmas is truly a time of peace, joy, and hope for all.

May we find strength in each other, and may this Christmas, though difficult, remind us of the resilience of our spirit and the hope that, together, we can create the Liberia we all deserve.

Merry Christmas to all, and may we continue to strive for a better tomorrow.
