📸 Historical Images from Liberia’s Civil Wars (1989–2003) 🇱🇷
These images show scenes from one of the most difficult periods in Liberia’s history — the Liberian Civil Wars, a time marked by violence, instability, and the collapse of national order.
The conflict, driven by power struggles and control of resources, is often remembered for the unusual appearance of some fighters. Many used costumes, masks, wigs, and symbolic outfits as part of psychological warfare, believing it gave them protection or confused their enemies. Sadly, thousands of child soldiers were also involved, forced into a war they did not choose.
The war claimed over 250,000 lives and left lasting scars on the nation. It officially ended in 2003, paving the way for peace and rebuilding.
