Poverty is a mindset long before it becomes a physical reality.
You can joke about almost anything in life but never joke about embracing poverty. Because once you accept it as your identity, it begins to write your story for you.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been sharing my heirloom seeds with farmers across Africa. What started as a quiet act of giving has drawn surprising attention. Yet in the middle of that joy of sharing,I talked with many of my younger brothers and sisters and heard something that broke my heart. Not just about seeds. About farming itself.
“Fred i can’t farm,” many of them are telling me. “We’re too poor.”
Those words landed heavy. Because poverty rarely begins with empty pockets. It begins in the mind. And as the good Book says, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” You will never become what you refuse to believe you can be. Every harvest, every breakthrough, every abundance you see around you first lived as a thought a decision to see possibility instead of limitation.
Think about these seeds.
A few years ago, my queen mother gifted me less than a kilogram. Just a small handful. If I had eaten them, or fed them to the chickens, there would be nothing left to share today. No stories of farmers receiving them. No tonnes multiplying across the years. But I planted. I protected. I believed that what was small in my hand could become great in the ground.
And now those same seeds have become tonnes upon tonnes.
Whatever you sow, you will reap. If you sow from the flesh from fear, from scarcity, from the belief that “I can’t because I am poor” you will reap corruption and more emptiness.
But if you sow from faith, from vision, from the quiet decision that your current lack does not define your future harvest, then abundance has room to grow.
My young brothers and sisters, watch your mind. Watch your mouth. That is where a man is made. The words you speak about yourself become the soil your life grows in. Fake it if you must speak life over your situation until your situation begins to listen. Because the seeds you saw today are what you will leap tomorrow.
Don’t let poverty sit at the table of your thoughts and make itself at home.
Rise.
Plant.
Believe. The harvest is already waiting for the one who dares to sow.
