Amniotic fluid plays a vital role in supporting fetal growth and development throughout pregnancy, providing protection, allowing movement, and supporting lung development 💧🤰

Abnormal amniotic fluid levels, including oligohydramnios, anhydramnios, and polyhydramnios, may be associated with complications affecting maternal and fetal wellbeing. Early recognition and appropriate monitoring are essential for identifying potential risks and supporting a healthy pregnancy.

Midwives play an important role in monitoring amniotic fluid levels, recognising potential complications, educating expectant mothers, and promoting informed, evidence-based antenatal care 🩺💙

The magic of the Peanut Ball during Labour! ✨

A peanut ball can be a helpful tool during labour, offering several potential benefits for the birthing person and their baby, including:

🤍 Encouraging pelvic mobility and creating space within the pelvis
🤍 Promoting maternal comfort by supporting different labour positions
🤍 Supporting fetal descent and potentially helping labour progress

Every labour journey is unique, and every birthing person has different needs. However, the right positions and support can make a meaningful difference in the labour experience. 🌷

Sometimes, it’s the little things that make a big difference! ✨

October is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month🤍

A time to remember the little lives gone too soon and show love and support to the families who carry their babies in their hearts every day.

To every mother and father who has experienced this loss, your babies are remembered, your pain matters, and your love for them will never fade.

As future midwives, we recognise the importance of offering kindness, care, and support to every family experiencing loss, making sure every parent feels heard, understood, and never alone.

This month can bring up so many emotions, so please be gentle with yourself and take a step back whenever you need to. There is no right or wrong way to get through it.

Sending love to all the families missing their little ones, this month and always. 🕊️🤍

October 10th is World Mental Health Day 💚
A reminder that it’s okay to ask for help, take a break, and give yourself grace. You don’t have to have everything figured out to be doing your best.

Check in with yourself and the people you love. Your mental health matters, you are never alone, and you will always be enough.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and is a reminder to take a little time for yourself and your health.💗 It is important to know your body and check your breasts regularly for any changes. Self-examining only takes a few minutes, but it can help you notice something that may not feel normal for you.

Take care of yourself, listen to your body, and don’t be afraid to speak to a doctor if you notice any changes. And remember to remind the women you love to do the same.🌸

OSQ was delighted to be part of Science in the city this year, where we had the chance to introduce the public to the world of midwifery and highlight the many ways midwives make a difference in the lives of women, babies, and families. 💜

From interactive activities and practical demonstrations to meaningful conversations, it was wonderful to see so many people take an interest in our profession. We truly enjoyed answering your questions, hearing your thoughts, and sharing our passion for midwifery with you all!

We are grateful to the Science in the City team for bringing together such a wonderful event and providing us with the opportunity to share, educate, and connect with the public.

We look forward to continuing to promote, celebrate, and inspire the next generation of midwives! 💫
