Found a literal hidden gem in Puerto Morelos today! Ma***to Burrito might look like a quiet neighborhood kitchen, but the woman running the show is the absolute sweetest soul you’ll ever meet. She treats everyone like family, and her breakfast burritos? Let’s just say I’ve found the gold standard for cheese pulls. 🧀🤤

This isn’t just a meal; it’s a tribute to Mayan culture and the wisdom of the land.

Koox Ich Kool, which means "Let’s go to the garden" in Mayan.

We spent the morning walking through "Kool" (garden), seeing how the local soil provides everything from heirloom corn to fragrant herbs.

Every ingredient is hand-harvested just steps from the table and prepared with traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. To eat here is to taste the history of the jungle. 🌽🔥

What to Expect

This isn't just a restaurant; it’s a full afternoon immersion into the Mayan jungle and sustainable agriculture.

The Experience:

Most visits last about 5–6 hours. It typically begins with a tour of the organic gardens where you see how the ingredients are grown.

The Food:

A multi-course (usually 6-course) gourmet meal prepared by Chef Karla Romo. Everything is organic, locally sourced, and cooked over local firewood for authentic flavor.

The Setting:

You dine in a beautiful open-air jungle setting. There is also a cenote-fed swimming pool on-site where guests can relax before or after the meal.

A Shakshuka that held its own, featuring a rich, smoky tomato sauce with a subtle local kick that had us mopping up every last drop. Two worlds, one table, and the perfect start to the day.

We stumbled upon this hidden gem serving authentic flavors from Veracruz, Mexico and my tastebuds are still vibrating. 🤤

I ordered the Memela having absolutely no clue what it was... and let’s just say it was the best "mistake".

Imagine a thick, handmade masa base, toasted to perfection, and piled high with fresh ingredients and a flavor explosion I didn’t see coming.

Everything was so fresh, you can taste the tradition in every bite. If you’re in Puerto Morelos and want the real Mexico, you need to find this spot.
