Mangifera pajang or bambangan is actually a fruit found only in Borneo, which includes the Brunei sultanate, Kalimantan province of Indonesia, and the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak. The fruit is known in Borneo with its native name, Bambangan. It is a species of plant in the Anacardiacea family.

Some of the popular common names of the fruit are Bambangan, Pajang, Membangan and Wild Mango. This fruit is used locally as food, the kernel sometimes being used to make pickle and the taste somewhat sweet if the fruits falls to the ground but taste sour when it is unripe.

Do you know that Tuhau is a type of wild ginger, native to the jungles of Sabah-Borneo? And it is used to make the dish of the same name. The dish slightly resembles a relish, in that it is both a condiment - most often accompanying fish - and a food on its own.

Tuhau ginger is finely chopped and served with lime juice or vinegar (for acidity), diced chilis, diced garlic, and salt. It is immensely popular in the Sabah region of Malaysia, where it is available all year long in most markets. Another way to serve tuhau is in its pickled form (which intensifies the tart, savory flavor), and it is then usually eaten with white rice.
