Last Friday, I made kuih cangkir and kuih seri muka for the first time.
I only learned by watching my cousin about a month ago, so I tried to make them purely from memory.

There were some hiccups along the way 😅
The kuih didn’t turn out pretty, but honestly, the taste was really good — and that made me happy.

I shared them with my aunts, cousins, and my mum’s friends. Their kind and encouraging words meant so much to me and gave me the motivation to keep learning.

I truly enjoyed the whole process. Making these traditional kuih gave me a small sense of achievement and made me admire even more how people in the old days could create such wonderful desserts with so much patience and skill.

Grateful for the learning, the memories, and the warmth shared through these simple kuih. 💛

I first came across this kuih in my aunt’s photo album, and it caught my eye immediately. Even though I had never tasted it before, something about the glutinous rice, yam layer, and crispy shallots just felt so comforting — my instinct told me it must be good.

My aunt then shared a small background story with me:
in the old days, this was a special treat enjoyed by young ladies from wealthy families — a delicate little snack of that era.

Today, I tried making Kuih Seri Berlauk for the very first time.
Not perfect, still learning, but there’s something meaningful about discovering an old kuih through a story… and slowly learning to make it with my own hands. 💛

I recently learned how to make kuih wajik. It’s still far from perfect, and I know I have a lot more to practice — but today’s attempt brought back such a warm memory for me.

This kuih reminds me of my late grandma. She used to make it for me every time I asked, without fail. The taste, the sweetness, the smell… all of it felt like comfort and love.

Trying to recreate it now made me realise how much of her still stays with me through these little things.
Just wanted to share this small moment — a simple kuih, but full of heart. 💛
