One Brick Drop new hype spot for all the xiao mei mei who love a good aesthetic dining place 👀✨
Casual Japanese-western inspired cuisine with a pretty straightforward menu that most Japanese food lovers would enjoy.
What we had:
Gyu Handroll, Negi Toro Handroll, Corn Ribs, Kampachi Handroll, Aburi Don, Burnt Tomato Prawn Pasta, Unagi Maki, Engawa Handroll, Truffle Foie Gras Don, Sesame Prawn Sando, Honey Ranch Tai, Engawa Claypot Rice, Uni Pasta, Scallop Maki, and Truffle Fries.
Overall, food-wise it’s not bad for a casual Japanese-style spot. But if you’re expecting a big wow factor, maybe not really. It feels more like Japanese comfort food at a rather premium price point.
The handrolls were decent and the portions of fish inside were quite generous, but don’t come too hungry… because you might end up over-ordering just to feel satisfied 😂
Of course, we had to try the Engawa Claypot Rice, very Malaysian-coded because we all love claypot rice hahaha. But to be honest, the engawa portion wasn’t a lot, which some people may find a bit underwhelming.
I mostly wanted to check out what the hype was about, but if I’m seriously craving Japanese food, this probably wouldn’t be my first pick.
That said, it’s definitely a nice spot if you want somewhere photogenic for the gram. Ambience-wise, it was quite loud, probably because it’s still newly opened and packed. Maybe it just needs a bit more time to settle in.
Big plus point: they open till 12am — so that’s a win 🌙
