So why are the filters, pumps and piping equipment inside the pump room still covered with rust stains?

Many times, the issue is not only the material.
It is also related to 𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺.

When a pump room is kept closed for a long period, air cannot circulate properly. Together with the chlorine smell from treated water staying inside the room, metal surfaces are more likely to develop oxidation, tea staining and rust marks.

These photos were taken during our maintenance and servicing work at condominium pump rooms. We were engaged for maintenance and servicing only.

For many existing pump rooms, hacking the wall to create a new ventilation opening may not be practical and may involve major work.

In comparison, installing an exhaust fan is usually a simpler and more practical way to improve air circulation.

𝗔 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹.
Pump room ventilation and proper maintenance can also affect equipment lifespan.

Sometimes, a few hundred ringgit of preventive improvement today may help avoid tens of thousands of ringgit in equipment replacement later.

Once,

along the North–South Expressway,
a petrol station operator at an R&R rest areas

reached out to us.

He wanted to install
a public water refill station.

He wasn’t a man of many words,
but when he spoke, he was direct.

He didn’t just see it
he understood its value.

Reducing plastic,
allowing long-distance drivers
to refill drinking water while refuelling,
and at the same time,
enhancing the overall image of the station.

But things weren’t that simple.

The station operates under a franchise model,
and every decision
has to be approved by the headquarters.

In the end,

the plan was rejected.

The installation was not allowed
within the station premises.

The reason was simple
and very real.

In this kind of setting,

is one of the best-selling products,
with the most stable profit.

When sustainability begins to touch
an existing business model,
