Bazaar Buzz: Nippon Nibbles’ Flavors of Japan

The bazaar is a much-anticipated event where student groups from the Leadership and Digital Entrepreneurship subject showcase their culinary creations, each booth offering a unique spin on global flavors. Nippon Nibbles brought the vibrant taste of Japan to the scene, with our signature lineup of takoyaki, dango, and the crowd-favorite Cloud Jasmine.

As we set up our stall early in the morning, we paid special attention to every detail—Japanese lanterns, hand-painted signs, and the irresistible scent of fresh takoyaki sizzling on the grill. The 'buy one, get one free' dango promotion added extra allure, and it wasn’t long before curious customers began gathering around.

The energy of the bazaar was contagious, with students and staff milling about, eager to sample the variety of foods on offer. Savoring Success: Nippon Nibble’s Second Sale with Takoyaki, Cloud Jasmine, and Dango

Building on the triumph of our first sale, Nippon Nibbles approached our second event with renewed enthusiasm and confidence. This time, we expanded our menu by introducing a new delight—dango—available in four exciting flavors: matcha, chocolate, Oreo, and soy. We were eager to showcase not only our beloved takoyaki and Cloud Jasmine but also this enticing addition inspired by traditional Japanese sweets.

Our preparations began at Charlotte’s house, where our team had grown more skilled and efficient since our first sale. Having refined our techniques, we tackled each task with confidence. However, this time we added a new challenge: crafting the perfect dango balls. Following the success of our previous trial, we were determined to recreate the same excellence with our new recipe.

Once on campus, setting up the booth felt seamless. We quickly organized into teams—one group focused on preparing the takoyaki, another brewed the Cloud Jasmine, while others handled the dango production. As orders started pouring in, we transitioned smoothly into the fast-paced action.

A Day to Remember: Our First Sale of Takoyaki and Cloud Jasmine

Our group gathered at Charlotte's house to prepare the ingredients for the first sale of takoyaki and cloud jasmine. Everyone was assigned what they had to do, and the kitchen was busy, filled with the sounds of chopping and stirring. We knew that today would be a true test of our hard work and dedication and we were determined to succeed.

We started by carefully weighing the ingredients. We know from previous tests that takoyaki batter is perfectly balanced - just the right amount of flour, egg and soy sauce. When whisking the batter, we made sure it was smooth and light enough to cook into golden, crispy takoyaki balls. The octopus chunks were cut into small pieces so he could fit into the batter, and the toppings - bonito flakes, mayonnaise and takoyaki sauce - were placed in easy-to-assemble positions. Meanwhile, we prepared the heavy cream and whisked it according to the proportions we had perfected during our testing. The cream needed to be fluffy and stable, with just the right amount of sweetness so that it would pair perfectly with the jasmine tea.

Once everything was meticulously packed and ready, we arrived on campus, eager to ensure a smooth setup. We quickly confirmed our division of labor and got down to business. First on our agenda was preparing preorders for our customers. We carefully poured the takoyaki batter into the molds, each time placing a piece of octopus and expertly turning the octopus balls until they achieved a perfect golden brown.
