I didn’t actually grow up drinking Pandan Longan with Lime & Lemon Tea. Instead, I learned it from the famous Singaporean dramas "The Little Nyonya" and "Emerald Hill: The Little Nyonya Story".
In The Little Nyonya, Ju Xiang would prepare this fragrant pandan longan tea to welcome guests. Later, her daughter Yue Niang carried on the same tradition in Emerald Hill, serving the tea to anyone who visited her home. That image of hospitality, warmth, and quiet elegance stayed with me.
One particularly hot day, I found myself craving something cool and refreshing. Suddenly, those drama scenes popped into my head. Coincidentally, I had everything I needed—limes and lemons in my fridge, pandan leaves from my mom’s garden, and dried longans tucked away in the refrigerator (a staple traditional herb in almost every Chinese household, just like red dates).
So, I decided to give it a try.
Balancing the flavours wasn’t easy at first. The dramas never showed measurements, only intuition. After three attempts—adjusting the sweetness, fragrance, and citrusy tang—I finally found the perfect balance. My family’s unanimous thumbs-up told me I’d nailed it.
This tea is best served ice cold.
Imagine a scorching hot day, and this chilled pandan longan tea appears in front of you. One sip in, and you instantly feel refreshed—cool, aromatic, lightly sweet, and citrusy.
