Happy New Year Everyone!!! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

Thank you for all your support during 2025. We enjoyed meeting many of you throughout the year ... and look forward to seeing you all again soon πŸ˜‰

We wish you all a joyful and peaceful 2026.

Here on the farm, we will try our very best to have 4 new guest units and a new "entertainment zone" with a braai, smoker, and pool area all finished and filled with guests by the end of the year 🀠

Awesome to see that Namibia won awards for being "Africa's Best Adventure Tourism Destination" and Africa's "Most Authentic Tourism Destination" as 2025 draws to a close.

Thank you to everyone for your kind Christmas messages this season.

When we opened up our family farmstead to guests last year, we thought we would meet some really amazing travellers but we never dreamt of how we would end up considering you all as lifelong friends after hosting you all for a few short days.

You guys really are very special to us.

Our plans for Christmas: We are getting ready now for guests that are arriving this afternoon for just the one night and then tomorrow we will head down to our parents' farmstead for our traditional Christmas party with family and neighbours.

There will be over 20 people, way too much food, and definitely one or two "uncles" encouraging everyone to take part in drinking games as the evening goes on!

Enjoy it all!! πŸ₯³πŸŽ…πŸŽ„πŸŽ

In between a busy month with guests from all over the world coming and going what seems like every day, we are slowly finding the time to get ready for 2026.

This is the first habit tracker that we have put together, based on globally renowned books that we have read by authors such as Robin Sharma, James Clear, and Hector Garcia & Francesc Miralles.

Our template starts off by asking us to think about our "personal mission" in life along with our weaknesses and how we feel that we will be able to improve on those.

The "Shinkansen targets" comes from Hector Garcia & Francesc Miralles book "The Ikigai Journey". There are many little anecdotes and stories that they have either experienced or heard during their time in Japan. The "Shinkansen" is Japan's extensive network of high-speed railway lines, nicknamed the "bullet train".

A short summary of the origin story for the bullet train is that in 1958 the Japanese government asked Japan Railways to find a quicker way for people to commute between Tokyo and Osaka. Japan Railways' engineers came up with a train that could travel at an average speed of 100km/h, which would have been one of the fastest trains in the world.

Japan Railways' executives responded to this design by saying that the train needed to go twice as fast!

This was obviously an impossible task.

Just 6 years later, the first bullet train was introduced achieving average speeds of over 200km/h ... much to the world's amazement.

Bringing this back to our personal goals ... Shinkansen targets are seemingly impossible dreams. Things that you would love to do, if only you could.

This makes me think of Norman Vincent Peale's quote, "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land amongst the stars."

But anyway ... back to our template : )

We then move on to general annual targets broken into four categories: mental, physical, marriage (or relationship), and business (or career) along with a brief monthly calendar to set ourself milestones and help us sketch out a very rough plan for the year ahead.

Finally, there is the monthly scorecard and 2 landscape pages for each month to encourage us to stick with our healthy habits.

It's amazing to still have water in the dam at this time of year.

Usually the ground dams dry up after the winter time (September / October) and then we have to hope for heavy rains to fill them back up again.

This is the first time in over 10 years that the ground dams have had water in them at the start of December πŸ₯³πŸŒŠ

We want to start posting more food videos and since we get 20 eggs a day thanks to our awesome chickens, we thought we would prepare a quiche.

Here is a little video for a Spinach, ham, and feta quiche. Very nice and easy.

Our family was luck enough to receive some very good rain during 2025.

In this video, you can see how grateful the ground was to receive the heavy rains at the start of this year. And then we include an update from a couple of weeks ago showing the current farm colours.

We've received little bits of early rain since August this year, for the first time in 60 years. This has helped a lot but you can still see how dry the farm is compared to 9 months ago.

All the farmers in the community are now firm believers that the early rain is a sure sign that we will receive another good year of rain ... πŸ€πŸ€ž
