Another notable breed we considered in our pig farm experiment is the Landrace. We purchased this pig from Dr. Igiri's farm in Ishieke, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, as a weaner in July 2024, at a cost of thirty thousand Naira only (₦30,000) each. We acquired five pigs; 3 females and 2 males. We experienced a loss of one pig around September 2024. We used the males to cross the females, resulting in the current pregnancy of the 3 females, with one being heavily pregnant after being crossed before the others. Interestingly, this pig was pregnant before we crossed the other pig that gave birth 3 days ago, yet it remains pregnant. We have discovered that some breeds' initial pregnancies often take longer than the standard 3 to 4 months. We expect the arrival of piglets soon and have developed various skills and techniques to apply to them. Soon, we will share our knowledge with young individuals on how to succeed in pig farming.

Greetings from us. We would like to share the outcome of our pig farm experiment to date. This is our pig that gave birth three days ago. We initiated this experiment around August 2024 with this sow bought pregnant from Edon farm in Abakaliki at a cost of one hundred and forty thousand Naira only (₦140,000). It gave birth to four piglets around November 2024. We successfully managed them and all four survived. It got pregnant again and gave birth to seven piglets; we experimented with other techniques and regrettably lost four piglets. Here it is again with seven piglets. We have certainly acquired more knowledge thus far. This particular breed is TN70, a very special breed.

RICE FARMING

Growing rice successfully requires attention to specific factors to ensure a good yield. Here are three essential tips for growing rice:

1. Proper Water Management

Explanation: Rice is a water-intensive crop that typically requires flooded fields (paddy fields) for optimal growth. The water level should be maintained consistently to ensure the plants receive enough moisture without becoming waterlogged. Proper irrigation and drainage systems are essential to manage the water supply, especially during different growth stages like germination, tillering, and heading. Maintaining a consistent water level helps control w**ds and ensures the rice plants develop strong roots and healthy grains.

2. Soil Preparation and Fertilization

Explanation: Rice thrives in well-prepared, fertile soil with good water retention capacity. Before planting, the soil should be plowed and leveled to create a uniform field that can hold water evenly. Incorporating organic matter, such as compost or green manure, can improve soil structure and fertility. Additionally, applying the right amount of fertilizers, particularly nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, is crucial for supporting healthy growth. Soil testing can help determine the specific nutrient needs of your field.

3. Pest and W**d Control

Explanation: W**ds and pests can significantly impact rice yield if not properly managed. W**ds compete with rice plants for nutrients, water, and light, so it’s important to keep the field w**d-free, especially during the early stages of growth. This can be done through manual w**ding, the use of herbicides, or by maintaining proper water levels, which can naturally suppress w**d growth. Pests like rice borers and leafhoppers should be monitored and controlled using integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.

In all, patience and Care is greatly required.

Behold the Managing Director, Okwor-igbo &Nwuzor Farm.

We recount heavy loss in our investment this year when our store was broken into and our seedlings to the tune of 5 bags, fertiliser and some chemical we had stocked for the second phase of our farming was made away with. Thanks to Chief. Chikaodili Ojimba who came to our rescue with high level assistance and encouraged us to go back to farm. Thank you so much High Chief !
Reality of Nigeria economy happened to me when I had to buy 2 bags of rice to the tune of #130,00 from a government facility (FADAMA) Office, Abakaliki Ebonyi State 😰.
Unfortunately, the two bags were broadcasted but never germinated😭😭, hence the application of herbicide to help clear the grass so we can start over again.

As a Young farmer, we are open to any available research work that can help us improve on our farming, so as to enhance productivity.

Also, we are willing to accept grants, low interest loan even, to assist us expand and engage in mechanised farming. This is where we solicit for government support and support from good spirited individuals or cooperates bodies.

As a Young graduate, I encourage every youth to take up farming as a second address even as it is a first address to me😁.
I have gained much from farming which includes but not limited to:
1. Patience
2. Endurance
3. Principles that are workable in different sectors of life.
