In livestock management, there are many ways to do things—from keeping animals purely indoors (Intensive) to letting them roam completely free (Extensive).

At our farm, we believe in the Semi-Intensive System.

What does that actually mean? It means our animals get the best of both worlds!

☀️ During the day: We open the gates and let them out into our lush pasture fields. There’s something special about watching them graze naturally, soak up the sun, and get that much-needed exercise. It’s not just about food; it’s about their mental well-being and natural growth.

🏠 In the evening: They return to the safety of their pens, where we provide them with supplemental nutrition (concentrates) and a secure place to rest away from predators or harsh weather.

We choose this path because we believe happy, active animals produce the best results. It’s extra work for us to manage the movement, but seeing them thrive on the open field makes it all worth it.

Pregnancy toxemia is a serious metabolic condition that affects pregnant ewes mostly in the last 4–6 weeks before lambing — especially those carrying twins or triplets...

At this stage, the unborn lambs require a lot of energy. When the ewe cannot eat enough to meet this demand, her body starts breaking down fat for energy, leading to the build-up of toxic ketones in the blood. This can quickly become life-threatening if not treated early.

Watch out for these signs:
Loss of appetite
Weakness
Isolation from the flock
Nervous signs (walking in circles, star gazing)
Trembling
Sweet smell from the mouth
Lying down and unable to stand

Emergency Response:
Give Propylene Glycol orally
Provide energy-rich feed (molasses, concentrates)
Administer Vitamin B Complex
Seek veterinary help for glucose (dextrose) injection

Tips:
Increase feed in the last 6 weeks of pregnancy
Provide quality hay and concentrates
Avoid stress and sudden feed changes
Ensure access to clean water and mineral lick
Group pregnant ewes based on litter size

Healthy pregnancy = Healthy lambs = Better productivity!
