Fans of The Dukes of Hazzard are heartbroken over the loss of a beloved figure. Ben Jones, the actor who brought the lovable mechanic Cooter Davenport to life, has sadly passed away at the age of 84.

According to his wife, Alma Viator, Jones died on August 9 after suffering a massive heart attack at his home in Washington, Virginia.

His last moments were described as serene. He was sitting in his favorite chair, eagerly waiting to catch a game of his beloved Atlanta Braves.

For countless fans, Jones will forever be remembered as Cooter, the warm-hearted mechanic and steadfast friend of Bo and Luke Duke on the iconic series that aired from 1979 to 1985.

However, his story extended well beyond the screen. After his acting career, Jones ventured into politics, being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Georgia in 1988, where he served two terms.

He continued to stay connected to The Dukes of Hazzard through fan events and his Cooter’s Place attractions.
