Norwegian scientists have developed a breakthrough technology that could reshape global agriculture: liquid nanoclay. This innovation can transform dry, lifeless sand into fertile soil in just seven hours, opening the door to farming in deserts and other arid regions once considered impossible to cultivate.

The method works by suspending tiny clay particles in liquid. When this mixture is applied to sand, the particles coat each grain, improving the soil’s ability to hold both nutrients and water. Early tests show that water use can be reduced by as much as 50 percent—an enormous benefit for areas facing severe water shortages.
