On Wednesday September 10 2025, a newborn baby girl was found dumped in a bush near Hope Academy Primary School in the A. A. Koto area of Akwanga town, Nasarawa State, Nigeria. She was later rescued alive by residents.

The baby’s mother was identified as a final-year NCE student of the College of Education, Akwanga. She was said to have abandoned the baby in the bush shortly after birth.

With the help of her friends and schoolmates, the police arrested the student and took her into custody. The case has since been handed over to investigators for further action.

Do you think the mother should be punished? And should the baby be given back to her?
