MY JOURNEY TO WEALTH CREATION DIDN’T START WITH MONEY. IT STARTED WITH WHAT I KNOW HOW TO DO.
Let me be honest. I’m not rich yet. 😂 But I believe wealth creation has to start somewhere, and for me, it started with something I already knew how to do.
I can cook.
Cooking is something I grew up around. My grandmother owned a restaurant at some point, even after retirement. My mum also cooked while working, and eventually, we had a restaurant of our own.
We literally lived in that restaurant. My mum went to work from there, I went to school from there, and we only went to her house once or twice a week when necessary.
So, in one way or another, I grew up learning a thing or two about food and the business around it.
When I started thinking about building something of my own, I asked myself a simple question: What can I do well enough to turn into a source of income?
The answer was right there. Cooking.
But I didn’t just want to cook what everybody could easily make at home. I wanted to offer something people genuinely loved but couldn’t always get easily.
That’s how I chose Ekpang Nkukwo by Cravings by Bjays-ZEST & ZING
It’s a delicacy that takes time, skill and patience to prepare. People love it, people crave it, but not everybody has the time or skill to make it. And when you find it, it can be quite expensive.
I saw an opportunity there.
I started with what I had and made packages that different people could afford, including options as low as ₦2,000.
Because I understand that you don’t have to start big to start well.
And that’s the lesson I want somebody reading this to take away.
You don’t have to go into tech because everybody is talking about tech. You don’t have to learn coding because it seems to be the next big thing. You don’t have to become a content creator if making videos isn’t your strength.
Personally, I know how to write, and I cook well. Videos? I’m still trying to find my feet there. 😂
But I don’t have to abandon the things I’m good at just because there are other things I haven’t mastered.
Your journey to wealth creation can begin with the skill you already have.
Look around you. What do people need? What do they love? What problem can you solve? What service can you offer and deliver well enough for people to pay you for it?
Do your research. Understand your market. Start within your means. And if you’re a person of faith like me, pray and ask the Holy Spirit for direction, too.
There must be a need you can meet, a problem you can solve, or something valuable you can offer.
You don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin. You just have to be willing to start with what you have and keep learning along the way.
I’m still on my journey. I’m building, learning, making adjustments, and trusting God for the future.
I’m not where I want to be yet, but at least I’ve started.
And sometimes, that’s the difference between the person who keeps dreaming about wealth and the person who begins to build it.
