PROCESS OF EGG FORMATION IN CHICKENS

Here's a step-by-step summary...

1. Birth of a Hen:
A hen is born already carrying all the eggs it will lay throughout its life.

2. Maturity:
Chickens begin laying eggs between 4 to 6 months of age.

3. Release of Egg Yolk:
When an egg yolk (the yellow) matures, it is released into the oviduct — a tube where further development happens.

4. Fertilization (Optional):

Hens can lay eggs without a rooster.

If a rooster is present, fertilization occurs when rooster s***m meets the egg yolk in the fallopian tube.

5. Formation Process:

The yolk moves down the oviduct.

It gets encased in albumin (transparent egg white).

Chalazae (twisted, rope-like structures) form to anchor the yolk.

6. Shell Formation:
The egg enters the uterus, where the shell forms. This is also where the shell color is added, depending on the hen’s breed.

7. Egg Laying:
The egg is laid through the vent, completing the cycle.

8. Nutritional Value:
Eggs are highly nutritious, packed with proteins, vitamins.
