PUBLIC NOTICE
CALL FOR SUBMISSION OF TEXTBOOKS FOR THE 2026 PHASE 1 ASSESSMENT AND RANKING
The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has issued a new policy to streamline and enhance book selection and approval processes. Consequently, the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) hereby notifies publishers, authors, printers, distributors, and other stakeholders in the book industry of the commencement of submissions for the 2026 Phase 1 Textbook Assessment, Reassessment, and Ranking Exercise.
Stakeholders are advised to carefully study and comply with the provisions of the Book Quality Guidelines and Submission Procedure available on the NERDC website.
KEY INFORMATION
1. Assessment and ranking will be conducted in three phases:
• Phase 1: Primary 1, Primary 4, JSS 1, SS 1
• Phase 2: Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2, SS 2
• Phase 3: Primary 3, Primary 6, JSS 3, SS 3
2. All textbooks, including those previously assessed for the specified class levels, must be submitted for assessment or reassessment in line with the new policy directions.
3. Textbooks intended for ranking shall first undergo assessment based on the improved assessment process, standards, and newly approved benchmarks.
4. Submission for Phase 1 (Primary 1, Primary 4, JSS 1 and SS 1) commences on June 8, 2026, and closes on June 19, 2026. Late submissions will not be considered.
5. Payment for assessment and ranking shall follow the newly approved process as outlined in the Book Quality Guidelines and Submission Procedure.
6. Assessment and ranking of all submitted textbooks and instructional resources will be concluded by July 31, 2026.
