Sometimes, working hard is not enough, direction matters.
Right after finishing secondary school, I began working as a primary school teacher. At the same time, I took on weekend jobs, serving at events and parties. My goal was simple: work hard, save money, and build a better future for myself. I believed I was making the most of my time, truly “making hay while the sun shines.”
Even while I was in school, I explored different small businesses, always striving to do more and earn more.
However, one thing I deeply desired to learn baking, kept getting postponed. I convinced myself that it required too much capital, especially for practicals, so I chose to stick with what felt safer at the time.
After I graduated, I continued working tirelessly. But at some point, I paused and reflected on my journey and future. That was when it dawned on me: despite all my efforts, I had been investing my energy in a path that wasn’t aligned with my true passion or long-term goals.
It was a difficult realization, but also a turning point.
I made the bold decision to start over and finally pursue a skill, baking. The journey wasn’t easy, but it was worth it.
Today, I am on a path that aligns with my passion, and I can confidently say the future looks brighter.
The lesson?
Hard work is important, but working in the right direction is what truly creates impact. Sometimes, you may need to pause, reflect, and redirect your efforts toward what truly matters.
