NEW STORY :

The Legend of Moremi: Chapter 1 - The Shadow Over Ife

Ile-Ife, the ancient and sacred cradle of the world, was suffocating under a cloud of fear. For years, the people of this revered city had been terrorized by a mysterious enemy known only as the "Igbo." They were not men, or so it seemed. These figures, draped from head to toe in rustling raffia, emerged from the dense forests surrounding the city like an eerie, walking plague.

They moved with a silent, unnatural speed. One moment, the marketplace was bustling with life; the next, children would disappear, harvests would be plundered, and homes would be reduced to ash. Even the bravest warriors of Ife, men whose spears had never failed them, found themselves paralyzed by a primal dread. "How can we fight spirits?" they whispered, their voices laced with despair.

But within the royal palace, a different kind of strength was brewing. Queen Moremi, a woman of legendary beauty and a spirit as strong as the ancient baobab trees, could not bear to witness her people’s suffering any longer. She watched from her chambers as fear gripped the city, her heart aching with every muffled cry and every empty marketplace stall. The elders debated, the warriors despaired, but Moremi decided. If the men could not find a way to fight this unseen enemy, a woman would forge the path.

One day, as the sun beat down mercilessly, Moremi stood before King Oranmiyan. Her voice, though soft, carried the weight of her resolve.

"My King," she began, her dark eyes meeting his, "the people are terrified. Our warriors are helpless. We cannot defeat what we do not understand."

King Oranmiyan, his face etched with the weariness of the raids, sighed. "And what is it you propose, my Queen? Have you found a secret the men have missed?"

Moremi’s gaze hardened with purpose. "I believe a different approach is needed," she stated. "One that requires courage, yes, but also cunning. I will find the secret of these Igbo. I will discover their weakness, and I will save Ife."

The King looked at her, a flicker of hope battling with his own profound concern. He saw not just a beautiful queen, but a fierce protector. He knew, in that moment, that Moremi was not one to be deterred. The fate of Ile-Ife now rested not just on the might of its warriors, but on the unwavering will of its Queen.

Boundless bound part 8
Final episode

The Induction Ceremony was beginning in exactly one hour. The great hall was filling with parents, professors, and proud students in crisp white uniforms. Outside, Tobi stood by the entrance, a bouquet of flowers in his hand, his eyes scanning the crowd desperately for the girl he loved.

Back in the quiet, shadowed hostel room, Ebele lay on the floor. She kept her eyes closed, her body trembling in a practiced rhythm. She was waiting. She was waiting for Amara’s soft hands to lift her up. She was waiting for the familiar words: ā€œIt’s okay, I’m here, I’ll stay. I won't leave you.ā€

But for the first time in three years, the hands never came.

Instead, Ebele heard a sound that chilled her to the bone: the sharp, metallic slide of a suitcase zipper.

Ebele opened one eye. Amara wasn't crying. She wasn't panicking. She was standing over her suitcase, pulling out her old, slightly faded spare clinical coat. It wasn't as beautiful as the shredded one on the floor, but it was clean. With steady fingers, Amara began to pin her nursing name tag onto the lapel.

"The shaking is fake, Ebele," Amara said. Her voice was flat, empty of the guilt that used to live there. "I’m a nurse-in-training, remember? I know how to check a pulse. Your heart is beating perfectly fine. Your breathing is regular. You aren't having an attack; you’re having a tantrum because you can’t control me anymore."

Ebele sat up instantly, her "panic" vanishing like smoke. Her face twisted into a mask of pure, naked rage. "If you walk out that door, Amara, you are dead to me! You’ll have no one! You think that boy or this school cares about you? You’ll be alone in this cold world!"

Amara walked to the door and paused. She looked back at the room that had been her cage, and at the girl who had been her warden.

"I was more alone when I was with you than I will ever be out there," Amara said quietly. "I loved you enough to carry you for years, Ebele. But I love myself too much to let you drown me."

Amara walked out. She walked into the ceremony ten minutes late, her spare coat slightly wrinkled, but her head held higher than anyone else's in the room. When she stood to take the Florence Nightingale pledge, her voice was the loudest. When Tobi hugged her afterward, she didn't look over her shoulder to see who was watching.

Ebele left the school that same week. She didn't graduate. She sent one final text that read: "You’ll come back. You can't survive without our bond."

Amara didn't reply. She deleted the number and blocked the past.

Two years later...

Amara stood in a busy, high-end hospital ward. She was wearing a crisp, designer scrub set, her mahogany skin glowing under the hospital lights. She was a professional, a woman of substance, and a true Success.

She still kept the gold butterfly necklace Tobi had given her, though she had moved the broken pieces into a new, stronger frame. It reminded her that something broken can be mended into something even more beautiful.

As she signed a patient’s chart, a junior nurse asked her, "Ma’am, how did you become so confident? You seem like you’ve never been afraid of anything."

Amara smiled, a deep, knowing smile. "I used to be afraid of everything," she replied. "Until I realized that the only person who could truly set me free was the woman in the mirror."

The "Boundless Bond" was finally over. Amara wasn't a half anymore. She was whole.

THE END.

Boundless Bond: Part 7 (The Final Sabotage)

The week of the Clinical Induction Ceremony arrived, the most important milestone of their nursing journey. For Amara, it was the finish line of a long, painful race. For Ebele, it was a death sentence for their relationship.

The atmosphere in their shared spaces had turned poisonous. Ebele didn't shout anymore; she stayed silent, her eyes following Amara like a predator. Every time Tobi called, or every time Amara tried on her new white clinical coat, the air in the room seemed to freeze.

The night before the ceremony, Tobi surprised Amara with a small, velvet box. Inside was a delicate gold necklace with a single butterfly pendant. "To remind you that you’ve finally found your wings," he whispered.

Amara went to sleep feeling like she was floating. But she woke up to a nightmare.

She found her white clinical coat—the one she had saved for months to buy—lying on the floor. It was shredded. Long, jagged cuts ran through the fabric, and black ink had been poured over the collar. Nearby, her gold butterfly necklace lay snapped in two.

Amara didn't scream. She turned to find Ebele sitting on her bed, calmly braiding her hair.

"Why?" Amara whispered, her voice trembling.

Ebele looked up, her expression terrifyingly blank. "I’m saving you, Amara. You think these people love you? You think that boy wants a nurse? He wants a trophy. I’m the only one who knows your weaknesses. I’m the only one who can handle the 'real' you. If you can't go to the ceremony, you’ll stay here. With me. Where it’s safe."

Before Amara could respond, Ebele’s face twisted. She began to gasp, clutching her chest, her body falling into a familiar rhythmic shaking. It was the "panic attack" that had always brought Amara running.

"Amara... help... I can't... see..." Ebele choked out.

Amara stood over her, the ruined coat in her hands. This was it. The moment where the bond would either break her or be broken. Should she call for help and miss her induction, or was this the final lie?

The Boundless Bond: Part 6

The sun that rose the morning after the "Door Incident" felt different. It was brighter, harsher, and it offered no comfort.

Amara hadn't slept. Her eyes were puffy, her heart heavy with the memory of Ebele’s sobs echoing in the hallway. But as she stood in front of her mirror, applying her lip gloss, she realized something terrifying: she felt free. For the first time, she had said "No" to Ebele, and the world hadn't ended.

A vibration from her phone broke the silence.
Tobi: ā€œGood morning, Sunshine. I hope you slept well. Can I take you for lunch at the Faculty lounge today?ā€

Amara smiled. It was a soft, genuine smile that reached her eyes. But just as she was about to reply, she saw Ebele walking across the hostel quadrangle.

Ebele looked like a ghost. Her hair was unkempt, her clothes were rumpled, and she walked with her head down, clutching her books like a shield. She looked exactly as she had before the changes, before they had both decided to pursue a new path.

Amara’s heart twisted. The "Boundless Bond" was pulling at her again. Go to her. Comfort her. Tell her you’re sorry, the voice in her head whispered.

At lunch, Amara sat across from Tobi. He was everything Ebele wasn't—calm, stable, and focused on the future.
"You're quiet today, Amara," Tobi said, reaching across the table to gently touch her hand. "Is everything okay at home?"

Amara looked at his hand, then out the window. She saw Ebele sitting at a distant table, eating alone, her eyes fixed on them. Ebele wasn't crying; she was just... watching. Her gaze was cold, empty, and filled with a silent accusation that made the food in Amara’s mouth taste like ash.

"My cousin and I... we're just going through a transition," Amara said, pulling her hand away.

"Transitions are good," Tobi replied. "But some people don't want you to transition, Amara. They want you to stay where they can control you."

That night, Amara returned to her room to find a note slid under her door. It wasn't a poem or a plea. It was a single sentence in Ebele’s sharp handwriting:

"I saw you today. I hope he knows that when you eventually leave him, I’m the only one who will be left to pick up the pieces."

Amara realized then that Ebele wasn't just struggling; she was waiting for Amara to fail. The bond wasn't just a shield anymore—it was a curse.

This is Part 5 of "The Boundless Bond."

The Boundless Bond: Part 5

The move to the new hostel felt like a physical amputation. For years, Amara and Ebele had been two bodies with one heartbeat. Now, there was a hallway, two heavy wooden doors, and a world of silence between them.

Amara tried to throw herself into the "Fine Girl" life she had always dreamed of. She started dressing up for lectures, her mahogany skin glowing under the sun, her laughter ringing out in the cafeteria. For the first time, she wasn't looking over her shoulder to see if Ebele was watching with disapproval or jealousy.

Then came Tobi.

Tobi was a final-year Engineering student—calm, confident, and very interested in Amara. When he asked for her number after a midweek fellowship, Amara felt a rush of genuine excitement. But as she began to type her digits, a familiar, cold wave of guilt washed over her. Her eyes instinctively drifted toward the hostel balcony where she knew Ebele would be sitting, alone.

Ebele, meanwhile, was drowning in the "freedom" they had fought for. Without Amara as her shield, the world felt too loud, too bright, and too dangerous. She would sit in her new, lonely room, staring at the wall, the silence echoing the therapy sessions. ā€œYou are using each other as a shield,ā€ Dr. Sarah had said. But Ebele didn't know how to stand without her armor.

One rainy Tuesday night, the power in the hostel went out. In the darkness, the old fears came crawling back. Ebele’s breathing became shallow, her heart racing. Before she could think, she was out of her room, running down the hall.

She pounded on Amara’s door, her voice trembling. "Amara! Please... I can't breathe. Open the door!"

Inside, Amara was staring at a "Goodnight" text from Tobi. Her heart broke at the sound of Ebele’s panic. This was the moment of truth. If she opened the door and let Ebele sleep in her bed like before, the "Boundless Bond" would win, and their progress would be destroyed.

Amara stood by the door, her hand on the lock, tears streaming down her face. "Ebele," she whispered through the wood, "I love you. But you have to go back to your room. Light a candle. Pray. Breathe. If I open this door tonight, we will never be free."

Ebele sank to the floor in the hallway, sobbing. The silence that followed was the loudest sound in the world. Would their sisterhood survive the distance, or was the bond only strong when it was a prison?
