The SustainFood Network School Garden and Food Waste Awareness Project was commissioned at Fatima Muhammad Secondary School, Gyadi Gyadi, Tarauni, Kano, as a Community Development Service (CDS) initiative under NYSC.

The project empowers students with practical lessons on food production, food waste reduction, sustainability, and how they can positively contribute to strengthening the agri-food system.

Food is a whole journey.

From the hands that plant the seed, to the farmers who nurture it, to the vendors, the transporters, market women and finally to our plates.

We successfully launched the SustainFood Network School Gardening Project at Federal Government College, Kano, as part of our Personal Community Development Service (CDS) under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kano State.

During the session, students were introduced to the concept of school gardening and were trained on how they can contribute to enhancing food security through small but impactful actions, such as growing their own food and adopting sustainable practices. The students also participated in practical demonstrations on transplanting seedlings and learned how sustainable food production is connected to building a hunger-free future.

This marks the first phase of our School Gardening Initiative, and we are excited to replicate this impact across other schools in Kano.
