Cannibalism is when bigger or stronger catfish attack and eat smaller or weaker ones. 😳🐟

It can happen when the fish are not properly sorted according to size, when there is overcrowding, inadequate feeding, or when some fish are much larger than others.

👉 Regular sorting is important! Separate bigger fish from smaller ones to reduce injuries, stress and losses.

Choosing the right pond is an important decision in fish farming. Your choice can depend on your budget, available space, water supply, management system, and the number of fish you want to rear.

Here are some common types of fish ponds:

1️⃣ Earth Pond – Made by excavating the soil. It is suitable for larger-scale fish farming.

2️⃣ Lined Pond – An earth pond covered with a waterproof liner to reduce water seepage.

3️⃣ Concrete Pond – Built with cement and blocks. It is durable and easy to clean and manage.

4️⃣ Fiberglass Pond – A ready-made pond that is strong, smooth and easy to maintain.

💧🐟 CLEAN WATER, HEALTHIER FISH!

Water management is one of the most important parts of catfish farming. Your fish live, eat and grow in that water, so keeping it in good condition should never be overlooked.

Today, I’m adding fresh water to my tank to maintain a better environment for my fingerlings. 💦

But remember: don’t change water carelessly. The amount and frequency depend on factors like stocking density, feeding, water quality and the condition of the fish.

Always observe your fish and the water before making changes.

🐟 DON’T JUST FEED YOUR CATFISH—WATCH THEM! 👀

One important lesson every fish farmer should learn is that feeding time is also observation time.

While feeding your catfish, pay attention to:

✅ How actively they eat
✅ Whether some fish are refusing food
✅ Whether there is leftover feed
✅ Whether they are swimming normally

If your fish suddenly lose interest in feed or behave differently, don’t ignore it. It could be an early sign that something is wrong with the water quality, environment or their health.

👉 A good fish farmer doesn’t just feed the fish—they observe, monitor and respond.

A little reminder about mortality… 🐟💔

This morning, while changing the water in my pond, I found one of my fish dead.

It hurts, especially when you’re putting in your time, money and effort. But farming teaches you that not every loss can be avoided.

Every loss is a lesson, and every lesson makes us better farmers. 🌱🐟
