Let's be candid, the disparity between Portugal and Argentina lies in the unity within their teams. You may disagree, but that's a fact. You'll never witness an Argentine player expressing disappointment when Lionel Messi misses a chance, unlike Bruno Fernandes' reaction when Cristiano Ronaldo missed his opportunity. I believe many Portuguese players have individual ambitions, causing a disjointed team dynamic. Cristiano Ronaldo may have sought to score in response to Lionel Messi, but I think Bruno Fernandes also appears to be chasing personal goals. Roy Keane criticized Bruno Fernandes for celebrating Premier League assists, and Manchester United fans were unhappy, but he had a point. It seems Bruno Fernandes wants to be the team's star, having been misled into believing he could win the Ballon d'Or by breaking the Premier League assists record and helping Manchester United finish third in the EPL. The Portuguese team comprises stars from top European clubs, whereas the Argentine team isn't filled with stars. However, Argentina's unity sets them apart. Their players share a common goal: winning the World Cup for Lionel Messi. In contrast, I don't hear Portuguese players expressing a desire to win the World Cup for Cristiano Ronaldo. I feel that the dynamic between Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United is repeating itself in the national team. Portugal won't advance far in the tournament unless they unite to win the World Cup for Cristiano Ronaldo.
