In 2025, EKo Waste Summit, an annual gathering of environmental experts, policymakers, private organizations and enterprises organised by the Waste Management Society of Nigeria (WAMASON) and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency in Lagos requested guests to come with their reusable water bottles.
The email sent to guests explained that the ‘green request’ is to fulfil their pledge to do away with Single Use Plastics in their events going forward. The pledge was made at the maiden edition of the summit in 2024.
This year, Eko Waste is yet to happen and the public can't tell if it will happen or not. Whatever happens, asking guests to bring their reusable water bottles is certainly an example of how corporate events, even those with interests outside environmental sustainability can reduce cost and waste.
