YOU KNOW WHAT PAINS ME MORE?
My late mother was a Pastor, but beyond being a woman of God, she was a mother who took our lives personally.
She sacrificed everything to raise us. She was a thoughtful woman with a deep connection to the Holy Spirit, and she raised us exactly the way she believed God instructed her to.
She would look at us and call us, “Ejima Dede mm.”
She would say, “You will bring me goodness.”
She reminded us that we were born at a time when our tradition had not yet fully accepted twins. She would tell us how Mary Slessor fought against the killing of twins and how, for our safety, she and our father eventually relocated to Jos, Plateau State to be safe away from home.
That woman carried us in her heart before the world ever knew the name P-Square.
But there was one thing that frightened her deeply.
She once told us about a revelation she had received from the Lord:
“They will rob Peter to pay Paul.”
Those words stayed with me.
She became our manager and personally took charge of our finances—not because she wanted a salary, not because she wanted a share of the Square Brothers, and certainly not because she wanted to enrich herself.
She only wanted her two sons to win.
Everything she did was about protecting both of us.
She wanted Peter to succeed.
She wanted Paul to succeed.
But most importantly, she wanted Peter and Paul to succeed together.
Today, I keep asking myself:
Dear Paul, if Mama were still alive today, and the very thing she feared had come to pass, what would she say to us?
-Peter’s breaks down again as he remembers the biggest fears of their beloved late mum ; Robbing Peter to pay Paul finally came to pass
