Be honest with yourself, Why do you really go to church every Sunday?

Is it because you genuinely desire to hear from God?
Or has going to church simply become a routine?
For some people, Sunday is about seeing friends.
For some, it is about wearing beautiful clothes and looking good.
For others, it is simply a religious obligation something they believe they must do because they are Christians.

But there is a deeper question we need to ask ourselves
When you sit in church, what are you expecting from God?

A true Christian doesn't come to church merely to complete a weekly routine.
He comes with a heart that is ready to hear God.
Lord, what are You teaching me today?
What in my life needs to change?
Is there something in me that is displeasing to You?
How can I become more like Christ?
That is the heart God is looking for.

A true Christian doesn't listen to God's Word simply to gain knowledge, argue with it, or point out what is wrong with other people.
He listens with a heart that says Lord, help me obey You.

Even when God's Word corrects him or her
Even when it exposes something he doesn't want to change.
Even when it challenges his lifestyle.
He doesn't choose only the parts of God's Word that are convenient and reject the parts that confront him.
Because the purpose of God's Word is not merely to make us hearers.
It is to make us doers.

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only James 1:22

So, when you go to church this Sunday, don't only ask What did the preacher say?

Ask yourself What is God saying to me?
And even more importantly What am I going to do about it?
Because true Christianity is not simply about attending church, carrying a Bible, or knowing Scripture. It is about having a heart that is continually being transformed by Christ and becoming willing to obey Him.

So, be honest with yourself👇
Are you simply going to church, or are you allowing God to change you?
Don't just hear the Word. Let the Word work in you.

Being in church does not automatically make someone a true Christian.
The real question is, Has Christ changed your heart?

Do you really seek God, or just His blessings?
Someone told me some time ago that he did not really love God, but that if he left God, he would die.
Many people come to God only because of what they can receive from Him.
They pray because they need protection.
They seek Him because they want healing, financial breakthrough, promotion, or success.
While God cares about our needs, He desires something greater our hearts, our love, and a true relationship with Him.

A true Christian seeks God not only for His blessings but because he genuinely loves Him.
A true Christian constantly asks,
Lord, what pleases You?
What do You want me to change?
“How can I obey You more?”

That is the heart God is looking for.
This is what separates religious people from true seekers of God. It also determines a lot about where you will spend eternity.

Modern day idols don't always have temples, they often have our attention.
An idol is anything that takes God's place in your heart or hinders your intimacy with Him.

It could be money, your job, your business, your phone, social media, entertainment, a relationship, the pursuit of success, people's approval, or even your own ambitions. Surprisingly, even ministry can become an idol if serving God replaces spending time with God.

Ask yourself:
What occupies my mind the most?
What do I find hardest to give up?
What steals the time I should be spending with God?
What do I trust more than I trust Him?
Anything that consistently pulls your heart away from God, weakens your prayer life, replaces His Word, or hinders your intimacy with Him is an idol, no matter how good or respectable it looks.

God is not asking to be one of your priorities. He is calling you to make Him first.

Little children, keep yourselves from idols. 1 John 5:21

You can attend church every Sunday and still be far from God.
You can preach, sing, pray, prophesy, serve faithfully, and yet your heart may still be far from Him.
God is not first looking at our religious activities
He is looking at our hearts.

So, how do you draw close to God?
Stop trying to impress Him with activities, and start pursuing Him personally and obeying Him. Spend time with Him in sincere prayer, study His Word with a heart that wants to obey it, repent quickly when He convicts you, and desire His presence more than His blessings.

How do you know your heart is truly close to God?
You begin to love what He loves and hate what He hates. Sin no longer becomes something you comfortably live with
it grieves you. Obeying God becomes your desire, not just your duty. Pleasing Him becomes more important than pleasing people.
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.

James 4:8
Religion can make you look close to God. Only a genuine relationship with Him can bring you close to His heart.

Sometimes, God doesn't have to shout to get our attention. He simply allows life to become quiet enough for us to hear Him.
Many of us truly discovered God, not on the mountain of success, but in the valley of pain. A sickness, a disappointment, a financial struggle, a broken relationship, or a season when everything seemed to fall apart became the very thing that brought us to our knees.

The trial wasn't sent to destroy us, it became the turning point that drew us back to the One we had neglected.
If you're going through a difficult season today, don't waste the pain. Let it draw you closer to God rather than drive you away from Him.

The greatest testimony may not be that the storm disappeared, but that in the middle of it, you found the God who never leaves.

"Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word." Psalm 119:67
