In my over 2 decades of exporting ornamental fish from Nigeria to Europe, Asia, and America, one truth stands: good packaging is the difference between success and loss. Every fish must arrive alive, healthy, and stress-free. Here’s how we do it:

- Fasting First – Starve fish 24–48 hours before shipping to reduce waste and ammonia build-up.
- Bagging Ratio – Always use 1/3 clean water and 2/3 pure oxygen. Never ordinary air – only compressed oxygen keeps fish stable through long flights.
- Treatment – Add mild sedatives, antibacterial agents, and ammonia neutralizers. This calms the fish and protects them from toxins during transit.
- Strong Sealing – Double or triple nylon bags, heat-sealed or tightly banded, to prevent leaks. Arrange upright in Styrofoam boxes with liners.
- Temperature Control – Use ice or heat packs for long-haul flights to maintain steady water temperatures.
- Compliance & Labels – Always follow airline/IATA standards and label boxes “LIVE FISH” for smooth handling at airports.
