Moist Red Velvet Cake Recipe
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
* 300g (2½ cups) all-purpose flour
* 20g (2 tbsp) cocoa powder
* 1 tsp baking soda
* ½ tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
* 250g (1¼ cups) granulated sugar
* 250ml vegetable oil
* 2 large eggs
* 240ml (1 cup) buttermilk
* 1 tbsp red food colouring
* 1 tsp vanilla flavour
* 1 tsp white vinegar
Method
1. Preheat your oven to 170°C and grease two 8-inch cake pans.
2. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. In a large bowl, whisk the sugar and oil together.
4. Add the eggs one at a time and mix well.
5. Add the vanilla flavour, red food colouring, vinegar, and buttermilk.
6. Gradually fold in the dry ingredients and mix until smooth. Do not overmix.
7. Divide the batter evenly between the pans.
8. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean.
9. Allow the cakes to cool completely before frosting.

* Use gel food colouring for a deeper red colour.
* Do not skip the vinegar; it helps create the classic red velvet texture.
* Chill the cake before frosting for cleaner decoration.
* For a richer bakery-style taste, replace half of the buttermilk with sour cream.
