Your chickens are drinking more water than usual? Before you blame the drinker, check these things.

Have you noticed your chickens emptying their drinkers faster than usual?

There could be several reasons:

🔥 Heat: Chickens drink more when temperatures rise because water helps them regulate their body temperature.

🌾 Feed intake: Birds eating more feed generally need more water.

🧂 Salt levels: Excessive dietary salt can increase water consumption.

⚠️ Health issues: An unusual and persistent increase in water intake can sometimes signal a health or management problem.

So, the next time you notice your birds drinking more than usual, pay attention to the pattern and what else is happening around the farm.

Are battery cages really the villain?

Battery cage systems often attract criticism, but the conversation is more complicated than simply saying “cages are bad.”

Like any housing system, what matters includes stocking density, ventilation, access to feed and water, hygiene, bird health and how well the system is managed.

So before we judge the cage, let’s understand the system.
